Fountain House Inc | Diversity Employer
Fountain House takes a public health approach to serious mental illness. We address both the health and social needs of our members through an integrated model that connects our physical clubhouse – where members are engaged in an innovative therapeutic community rooted in Social Practice, and take steps in reclaiming their agency and dignity – with access to clinical support, housing, and care management. Our College Re-Entry and young adult programming focuses on early intervention and prevention of isolation and its health, social and economic effects. Our policy and advocacy work is shaping a national mental health policy agenda, from how we respond to mental health emergencies, to addressing systemic barriers that people with serious mental illness face every day.
MISSION
To create the community, innovation, and social change needed for people most impacted by mental illness to lead connected and healthy lives.

We believe that every person...

- Deserves just and equitable treatment
- Has the right to self-determination and community
WHY WE'RE LEADING A MOVEMENT
Millions of Americans living with serious mental illness are denied access to care and support in the community, and end up cycling through our streets, shelters, emergency rooms, and jails. For far too long our punitive, ineffective and costly approaches have taken away their capacity, dignity, and humanity. For more than 70 years, Fountain House has believed in people living with serious mental illness - who are our sons, daughters, mothers and fathers, friends and neighbors - and has proven that they can reach their goals and aspirations for a better life.

WHY FOUNTAIN HOUSE?
In 2021 we adopted a bold strategic plan to transform how people with serious mental illness are treated – from direct on-the-ground services to addressing systemic barriers that people with serious mental illness face every day. Critical to our success will be building up our team of dedicated, diverse, and visionary staff to meet our growing ambitions. To learn more about our new direction, read our message from the President and CEO “A New Era for Fountain House”.
WE CHANGE LIVES
Fountain House works. Serious mental illness can happen to anyone and affect any family. People living with serious mental illness suffer inordinate stigma and discrimination, and are marginalized and over-represented in our jails and prisons, and in our shelters and street homeless. While mental illness is universal, these bad outcomes are experienced more by people of color and people in poverty.
We have pioneered a model – adapted in 200 locations around the country – where people come by choice, are met with dignity and respect, and work together with our staff to achieve their goals and recover. Our members complete their education, find paid work, and achieve health and wellness goals at significantly higher rates than people living with serious mental illness who do not have access to our programs. We consider mental health a social justice issue. That is reflected in our policy and advocacy work to shape a national mental health policy agenda - from how we respond to mental health emergencies, to addressing systemic barriers that people with serious mental illness face every day.
OUR COMMITMENT TO RACE, EQUITY, DIVERSITY, AND INCLUSION (REDI)

Fountain House is committed to being a diverse and inclusive workplace. We are building our REDI Initiatives to identify inequities within our organization and develop policies and practices that advance race equity principles in our workplace and work.
