The Vice President, Segment & Market FP&A is a key member of the Finance leadership team, responsible for driving financial strategy, performance, and business growth across the Commercial, IFB, Medicare, and Medicaid markets. This role provides visionary leadership in financial planning, analysis, and market strategy, partnering with senior leaders to optimize profitability, manage risk, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. The VP leads cross-functional teams and presents actionable insights to the executive team to inform strategic decision-making. Performs other duties as assigned. Key Accountabilities:
- Strategic Financial Leadership and Partnership
- Own and drive the financial strategy for all market segments, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and market conditions
- Serve as the principal finance partner to product, strategy, and executive teams, providing recommendations to optimize profitability and operational efficiency
- Translate enterprise financial objectives into actionable segment and market financial plans. Support business leaders in understanding financial drivers, risks, opportunities, and tradeoffs
- Partner with senior leaders to improve business accountability, decision quality, and financial performance across assigned segments and markets. Build strong relationships across segment, market, product, actuarial, underwriting, growth, operations, and finance teams
- Forecasting, Planning & Analysis
- Lead segment and market budget development, quarterly forecasting, variance analysis, and recurring financial planning processes
- Monitor performance against forecasts, identify drivers of variances, and recommend corrective actions
- Integrate market trends, regulatory changes, and competitive dynamics into financial planning
- Ensure robust financial modeling and scenario analysis to support strategic initiatives
- Market Analysis & Strategy
- Lead market analysis efforts to identify emerging trends, risks, and opportunities
- Partner with business leaders to evaluate business cases, market initiatives, product changes, pricing implications, investment decisions, and operational improvement opportunities
- Executive Leadership & Influence
- Present financial performance and strategic recommendations to the executive leadership team
- Build and maintain strong relationships with senior leaders, positioning finance as a trusted advisor
- Lead high-impact, ad-hoc financial analysis and strategic projects
- Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, manage, and develop the Segment & Market Finance team
- Build strong finance business partner capabilities across the team. Set clear goals, priorities, roles, and expectations
- Coach team members to strengthen financial analysis, business partnership, communication, and executive presence
- Manage team capacity, performance, succession planning, and talent development
- Promote a culture of accountability, Innovation, collaboration, analytical rigor, continuous improvement, and business partnership
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or related field
- 15+ years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, and/or product development
- 8+ years in direct management roles
Strongly Preferred Qualifications:
- MBA or advanced degree
- Industry Expertise: Deep knowledge of healthcare, insurance, or managed care, with direct experience in Commercial, IFB, Medicare, and Medicaid segments
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in financial systems and tools (Excel, Tableau, ERP), financial modeling, and forecasting
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams, drive change, and influence senior stakeholders
- Strategic Skills: Strong strategic planning, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
- Communication: Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial concepts to diverse audiences
- Compliance: Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, including health care reform and industry regulations
- Other: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment; experience with risk adjustment, reimbursement models, and regulatory compliance

This position is an Office role, which requires an employee to work onsite at our Minnetonka office, on average, 3 days per week. The full base pay salary range for this position is $264,000-$396,000. Annual base pay salary range placement will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, education, work experience, applicable certifications and or licensures, the position's scope and responsibility, internal pay equity and external market salary data. In addition to base compensation, this position is eligible for Medica's Short Term Incentive plan, Long Term Incentive plan and our Supplemental Executive Retirement Plan.
