Job Summary

The Research Support Specialist provides administrative support for the College of Education and supports the administration and oversight of the Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant. Assists with administrative operations, grant compliance, and implementation of grant funded activities according to grant specifications.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Assists with award oversight to ensure grant compliance and the successful running of post-award activities.
  • Accurately collects and analyzes data.
  • Assistinpreparingforaccreditationauditsandsitevisits,includingscheduling,logistics,anddocumentation.
  • Assists with the administrative oversight of grant related activities through budget monitoring, record keeping, deadline oversight, and report completion.
  • Provides administrative support to include maintaining schedule/calendar, screening telephone communication, greeting and directing visitors, and resolving administrative problems and inquiries.
  • Completes transfer requests, reconciles expenditure transactions, maintains accounting records, and other transactional duties related to award administration.
  • Fulfills purchasing requirements for assigned area, researching items and obtaining price quotes, entering information into university systems, receiving purchase orders, maintaining P-Card information, and reconciling purchases.
  • Composes and prepares written documents and correspondence including reports, memos, meeting materials, letters, presentations, and spreadsheets.
  • Establishes and maintains systems for administration of records for the area, including electronic files, records, and databases.
  • Updates and maintains unit website and social media accounts.
  • Provides administrative support for the hiring of OPS and student employees to assist with post award work and projects.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs to ensure compliance and adherence to policies and procedures.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • This position requires a high school diploma and two years of full-time experience directly related to the position.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in a related field.
  • Experience working in higher education.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of general office procedures.
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, and guidelines established by professional organizations and/or governing agencies.
  • Knowledge of budget control principles, practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of various funding agency rules and regulations as they pertain to grant/contract administration.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects when numerous and diverse demands are involved.
  • Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.
  • Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, and reports.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversity of its student body and workforce and actively promotes an equitable environment.
  • Ability to think critically and make clear, well-reasoned and timely decisions.
  • Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
