Job Summary:



The Advanced Practice Provider in this role will work closely with our Lead APP and collaborate with other Department leadership to meet the department's mission. The APP should be an excellent clinician with strong management and leadership skills. This role is accountable for developing and managing the quality of advanced practice clinical services/programs in the Department of Emergency Medicine. The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

Typical Physical Demands: The NP/PA position requires the ability to handle and lift patients and operate required equipment. The position may also require a stationary position or movement for extended periods as required during the provision of services. This position requires frequent communication and must be able to exchange accurate information. The NP/PA may also be exposed to communicable diseases and bodily fluids, and it is expected that the candidate will be appropriately knowledgeable regarding universal safety precautions.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Chair monthly APP Faculty Meeting
  • Supervise/mentor the associate lead APP
  • Provide oversight to the Lead Scheduler for the APP schedule including call and holiday schedule
  • Collaborate with APP EM Fellowship Directors and assist with education initiatives
  • Participate in ED process improvement projects as assigned
  • Provide feedback and conduct performance evaluations for APP faculty, as assigned
  • Mentorship of APP faculty as assigned
  • Assess APP clinical productivity and clinical care quality and develop group performance improvement plans
  • Promote Department initiatives and help to align goals of the APP group with the Department mission
  • Work with Clinical Decision Unit leadership to continuously evaluate care provided
  • Assist in recruitment and ongoing training of APPs appointed to the faculty in the Emergency Department:

    • Chair Search Committee for all new APP hires
    • Coordinate onboarding schedule for all training with the APP Scheduler and participate in orientation training shifts
    • Oversee and participate in overall clinical orientation in Supertrack, CDU and Main ED zones


  • Participate as a member of the following committees. If unable to attend, a designee may be appointed, but > 75% participation is required unless otherwise noted:

    • ED Operations
    • ED PI (bettER PI)
    • ED CRC
    • Resident Case Conference (50% attendance)
    • All Faculty Meeting (50% attendance)
    • Others as assigned

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Instructor:



  • Active and current license to practice as physician assistant or nurse practitioner in the State of Colorado
  • Certificate of completion from a nurse practitioner or physician assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), or the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
  • Certification by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants or other agency
  • Current and active certification in basic life support (BLS), advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) and advanced trauma life support (ATLS) - ATLS certification required by 04/01/2022.
  • Master's degree for physician assistants or nurse practitioners
  • Minimum of one-year clinical experience in emergency care or urgent care post-graduation.
  • Must hold a Clinical APP position in the department.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Two years or more of clinical experience in emergency care or urgent care
  • Preference will be given to applicants with the ability to work as full-time nocturnists, with increased differential pay included
  • Fluency in Spanish
  • Completion of post-graduate Advanced Practice Provider fellowship/residency in acute care Emergency Medicine is highly recommended but not mandatory
  • Master of Science Degree, Registered and currently licensed
  • Certified as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the State of Colorado. Meets all requirements of medical staff credentialing
  • National certification within respective area of specialty
  • Minimum of 3 years advanced practice experience
  • Previous clinical leadership experience.
  • Supervisory experience, preferably in the management of Advanced Practice Providers
  • Knowledge of quality indicators in healthcare and patient safety


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Possess a strong dedication to clinical activities, including providing care to adult and pediatric patients.
  • Competent in bedside teaching of learners, including residents and medical students

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$8,000 stipend and 0.223 FTE of protected time per annum.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
