JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Dr. Reyes' Lab in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at Penn State is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented full-time Human Research Technologist. This role offers an exciting opportunity to assist in research projects related to food choice and early childhood nutrition in community-based settings, especially rural communities.

Current and emergent projects in the lab focus on examining the role of social networks in dietary behavior, food environments, food acquisition patterns in rural communities, and health communication strategies with an emphasis on community engagement in rural communities. We are an interdisciplinary lab and apply mixed qualitative and quantitative methods, with a growing interest in social network analysis. We encourage candidates from diverse academic backgrounds to apply, and being bilingual in Spanish is a highly valued asset.

The Human Research Technologist will be responsible for the day-to-day management of research and lab activities. These activities include developing research protocols and assuring implemented procedures adhere to approved protocols, recruitment, data collection, analysis, and outputs in the form of reports and presentations. Opportunities for authorship on research projects will be available.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop and review research protocols, including the design of recruitment material and data collection instruments.

  • Develop, review, and submit Institutions Review Board (IRB) documents and modifications; ensure implemented procedures adhere to IRB-approved protocols.

  • Recruit potential participants for research studies; communicate with participants and coordinate their participation across the lifecycle of studies; maintain study databases.

  • Collect, enter/manage, code, and analyze data; contribute to the design of data plans; present updates to the research team.

  • Develop lab functioning protocols; train research team in research procedures and lab functions; coordinate with team schedules; may supervise research team to build team capacity.

  • Participate in community-engaged activities with the research team.

  • Serve as liaison with Principal Investigator (PI), research collaborators, and community partners/stakeholders.

  • Assist the research team, as needed, in the implementation of lab activities to ensure its success and efficiency.

  • The author reports and prepares presentations for diverse audiences; opportunities for authorship on research projects will be available in the form of abstracts, manuscripts, and conference presentations.

Qualifications:

  • An Associate Degree or higher plus two years of relevant experience is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • A Bachelor's Degree in nutrition, public health, sociology, psychology, anthropology, or related fields is preferred.

  • Proficiency in interpersonal and organizational skills is essential.

  • Experience with programming languages (e.g., R, Stata), Social Network Analysis, and qualitative analysis software is highly desirable.
