Responsibilities

Job Summary
Cardiac Training Center offers CPR and Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) courses for employees and the community. The ACLS instructor will work in collaboration with the AHA Training Center Coordinator and Faculty to ensure courses meet AHA requirements.

The ACLS Instructor functions in all components of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) courses including responsibility for lecture of all required American Heart Association (AHA) class content, initial Mega code demonstration; group control skills; knowledge and facility with all ACLS clinical and medical devices and equipment; setting up and using educational presentation tools; creating, presenting, and leading case-based scenarios, case discussion stations, skills instruction and skills evaluation stations, practice stations, remediation stations, and written examinations; the educational philosophy of the ACLS Program; and relevant policies and procedures for conducting AHA courses.

Must be self-motivated, trustworthy, and flexible. Instructors work with minimal daily supervision, and must be able to meet timelines and complete tasks. The majority of classes are during regular business hours (Monday-Friday between the hours of 9am-5pm), though some classes may be taught on weekends or evenings as needed.
  • Conducts classes for HonorHealth staff and community health care professionals by teaching AHA BLS/ACLS, and other AHA courses.
  • Utilizes a variety of teaching techniques using manuals with lesson maps, visual aids, charts, lectures and physical demonstrations of life support skills checks. Ensures program curriculum is presented accurately to participants.
  • Assesses the participants' level of understanding and adapts instruction to the best advantage for the participants, while following the AHA guidelines and agendas at all times. Implements adult learning strategies.
  • Communicates well with community/client populations. Aligns with HonorHealth Training Center including signing the Instructor Agreement, and registering on the AHA Instructor Network.
  • Displays initiative and adherence to the organization's and AHA's core values in organizing, conducting, and record keeping. Maintains AHA BLS ACLS or PALS Instructor Certification, meeting the AHA minimum requirements for teaching.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Experience
3 years working experience in a healthcare occupation or field requiring utilization of ACLS required such as but not limited to registered nurse, paramedic, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, and EMT. Required
Ability to meet shift commitment of a minimum of 3 shifts per month Required

Licenses and Certifications
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) American Heart Association ACLS card Required
Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association BLS Provider card Required
Willing to take AHA BLS and ACLS Instructor course at own expense Required
