Job Summary

Assist with the monitoring, evaluation, and protection of the computer systems and networks of FIU from cyberattacks, unauthorized access, and data breaches. Work with the universitys IT security tools and techniques to identify and resolve security issues and to implement and enforce security policies and standards. Develop programs to educate and advise staff and management on best practices for IT security.

  • Performs regular security audits and assessments of the organizations IT systems and networks, and reports on any vulnerabilities, risks, or incidents.
  • Identifies, reports, and works with units to resolve security incidents.
  • Monitors and analyzes security logs and alerts and responds to any suspicious or malicious activities or events.
  • Investigates and resolves security incidents and breaches, and coordinates with internal and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Researches and stays updated on the latest trends, threats, and best practices in IT security, and recommends and implements appropriate solutions.
  • Deploys and enforces security policies, procedures, and documentation, and ensures compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Provides training and guidance to staff and management on IT security awareness, policies, and procedures.
  • Assists in the development of new security standards and best practices.
  • Creates and updates documentation such as knowledge base articles, guidelines, standards, and procedures.
  • Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, storms, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field with two (2) years of experience in related field.

Desired Qualifications

  • Excellent knowledge of security best practices for securing computer systems and networks of an organization.
  • Experience working with intrusion detection, intrusion prevention systems with vulnerability management tools.
  • Experience working with continuous monitoring and detection tools in the cloud and on-prem infrastructure.
  • Experience implementing and updating security software, hardware, and protocols, such as firewalls, antivirus, encryption, authentication, and backup systems.
  • Excellent knowledge of networking devices. (routers, switches, and firewalls)
  • Solid understanding of industry regulations including PCI, HIPAA, FERPA, GLBA and CMMC.
  • Excellent knowledge of the NIST cybersecurity framework.
