The successful candidate will contribute to hardware and software development, as well as data analysis, within the DUNE and NOvA experiments. The candidate will primarily work with Professor Bian. Bian's group is heavily involved in AI/ML reconstruction for DUNE and NOvA, DUNE detector production, quality assurance and installation, and NOvA oscillation analysis. Specifically, current research topics in Professor Bian's group include:
In addition to physics students and postdocs, Bian's group includes several students from UCI's computer science departments. These CS students collaborate with physics postdocs and students on deep learning algorithms and statistical tools for neutrino reconstruction and analysis. A postdoctoral researcher in our group is expected to work on the DUNE purity monitor and cold electronics production, quality assurance, installation, and commissioning, as well as deep-learning reconstruction software development for DUNE and NOvA. The candidate is also expected to contribute to data analysis for NOvA and ProtoDUNE. The candidate must be able to travel to Fermilab, CERN, and SURF. We are seeking candidates with a Ph.D. in experimental particle physics, with skills in both hardware and software/analysis.
