A Day in the Life of a Mechanical Department Manager at Hanson

Here's a snapshot of what you would do in this role:

  • Supervise and empower technical personnel to meet HR standards, foster resource redundancy, and ensure consistent performance
  • Collaborate with project managers and task managers to deliver high-quality technical documents that align with project requirements
  • Conduct due diligence studies, feasibility assessments, and energy audits; evaluate indoor air quality and support utility master planning
  • Prepare mechanical construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for HVAC, plumbing, piping, and fire protection systems
  • Manage resources by forecasting needs, monitoring workloads, and ensuring efficient utilization across teams
  • Participate in proposal development, including scope definition, fee development, and go/no-go decision support
  • Partner with other Department Managers to enhance technical capabilities and support continuous improvement
  • Work closely with HR for compliance, personnel reviews, and professional development initiatives
  • Contribute to strategic planning, identifying emerging technologies, and refining our technical competencies.
  • Collaborate with the Facilities Practice Lead to ensure strategic alignment with organizational objectives
  • Operate under the guidance of the Facilities Practice Lead based in Raleigh, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Other duties as assigned

What We're Looking For

We feel the following qualifications would set you up for success in this role:

Skills:

  • Proven leadership experience managing technical teams across multiple regions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and REVIT
  • Strong communication skills-both written and oral
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectively delegate tasks
  • Experience with construction administration, field observation, and working with contractors
  • Knowledge of building, mechanical, and energy codes
  • Familiarity with energy analysis tools such as ComCheck, EnergyGauge Summit, and load calculation software such as Trane Trace 700
  • Experience conducting energy audits, MEP commissioning, and retro-commissioning
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality control and technical excellence
  • Supervisory experience managing teams across different regions

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain within six months
  • 10+ years of experience in consulting services focused on HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems
  • Supervisory experience with technical personnel and project teams
  • LEED accreditation is a plus

Salary Range: $130,000 - $160,000, dependent upon candidate experience.
