Job Overview

The Sterile Processing Ed Coord is responsible for orientation of new staff and ongoing education of existing staff. Assists with coordinating and planning of education needs for sterile processing staff and collaborates with OR/Procedure Center educator on processing of instruments and equipment.

Qualifications

  • EDUCATION - High School Diploma; Associates Degree preferred
  • EXPERIENCE - 3 years' experience as a Surgical Technician or Instrument Tech
  • CERTIFICATION(S) - CBSPD Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or NBSTSA or NCCT Certified Surgical Technologist or IAHCSMM Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) within 6 months of hire
Responsibilities

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

  • Responsible for orientation of new staff and ongoing education of existing staff.
  • Assists with coordinating and planning of education needs for sterile processing staff and collaborates with OR/Procedure Center educator on processing of instruments and equipment.
  • Acts as an SPD tech as needed.
  • Flexible with schedule to provide orientation to off shifts.
  • Responsible for arranging in-services on new instruments and equipment and developing and implementation of staff competencies.
  • Responsible for assuring compliance with all regulatory standards and professional recommendations including monitoring record keeping on all equipment to include manufacturers recommendations on care, cleaning and preventative maintenance.
  • Performs audits as needed.
  • Assists department in preparation for regulatory surveys.
  • Supports educational strategies to enhance staff knowledge with respect to processing practices and service delivery.
  • Promotes the utilization of evidence to drive practice changes. Identifies and resolves issues through variance reporting or other methods.
  • Participates in product evaluation for both existing and proposed equipment and supplies used for decontamination and cleaning of instruments and equipment.

Salary Information

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $51,410.74 to $77,116.10
Hourly Salary Range: $24.72 to $37.08
