JOB TITLE:

Professor of Practice - Communication & Journalism

JOB PURPOSE:

The Department of Communication & Journalism at the University of Wyoming invites applications for a Professor of Practice at the assistant or associate level and Director of Debate and Forensics beginning August 2025. The University of Wyoming Debate Team is a nationally competitive program that participates in NDT/CEDA policy debate and Public Forum debate formats, as well as public debate events. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses, such as Persuasive Argumentation, Political Communication, and Debate Skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete administrative duties associated with Director of Debate and Forensics appointment; coach undergraduate students who compete in policy debate
  • Teach undergraduate level courses each academic year
  • Supervise graduate students who work as assistant coaches with the debate team
  • Raise funds for the debate team and build relationships with donors

    REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

    This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Master's degree in Communication, Journalism, or a related discipline, by the time of hire
    • At least five years of experience successfully coaching intercollegiate policy debate
    • Ability to travel for much of the school year
    • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous college-level teaching experience
  • Experience with courses such as persuasion or argumentation
  • Experience managing a large budget and coordinating travel and research logistics
  • A record of coaching competitive success in NDT/CEDA policy debate
  • Experience hosting college or high school tournaments on a university campus
  • Desire to enhance debate in the state and region
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive, co-curricular debate teaching that serves students from various backgrounds
