Job Summary The Financial Analyst - Network Ambulatory applies extensive knowledge of industry practices in health care decision support and advanced professional concepts to substantial projects, typically at high degrees of complexity.
The Analyst brings deep analytic, financial, and project management skills to focus on strategic initiatives to guide decision-making and develop insights on growing ambulatory care in the San Francisco Bay Area regional sites and expanding patient access to UCSF world-class care. The role will work closely with leadership, physicians and other healthcare providers, IT, finance, and operations.
The analyst will provide support for new projects go-live, regular financial reporting for cancer, and other ambulatory initiatives (i.e. BOPC radiation oncology ASC, and POPC). This Analyst will partner with stakeholders to ensure a successful financial go-live for affiliated projects, track proforma updates, and provide budget support for the Network Ambulatory annual operating budget and Ten Year Plan. Estimate KPIs for existing ACO, ambulatory specialty, primary care clinics, and other initiatives. Evaluate new project analysis and business case development and partner to manage/track invoices and purchase orders related to ambulatory network projects. This individual is recognized as a health care decision support expert. Applies comprehensive knowledge of professional concepts and industry practices to lead complex project analytics of large size and scope that have a critical impact across the university, medical center, physician, and affiliate entities as applicable. Prepares data/reports and analysis to help businesses make decisions. Works as a liaison across business units, implementing and monitoring changes. Utilizes strong project management skills to ensure successful prioritization and completion of projects. Works with Network, and Decision Support Systems (medical center and faculty) to understand reporting requirements and data limitations to help develop custom reports and validate data across the organization as it relates to initiatives.
Responsibilities will include gathering data and producing analysis/investigations of performance utilization, clinical programs, market trends as appropriate, financial analysis in support of due diligence, financial forecasting, and modeling various scenarios. Evaluate schedules and the data for completeness and accuracy. Ensures details comply with finance policies and procedures. Gathers data and information from the managerial financial accounting reporting system, EPSI budget advisor system, and other applications to integrate overall financial performance at a cost center, division, and other hierarchal levels. Develops and maintains key relationships with organizational functional areas to meet the organization's needs for effective system-wide financial analysis and ad-hoc analysis. The successful candidate will work closely with leadership, network, medical center, and faculty practice finance teams, decision support professionals, department managers, and outside consultants. The candidate must be able to thrive and succeed in a changing environment and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. The candidate will anticipate bottlenecks, anticipate and make trade-offs, and balance the business needs versus other priorities. The ability to take sparse information and successfully break down projects, initiatives, and strategic priorities is expected. Maturity, high judgment, negotiation skills, ability to influence, and analytical talent and leadership are essential to success in the role. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $126,100 - $189,200 (Annual Rate). Department Description UCSF Health's Office of Strategy and Health Affiliates is charged with leading and executing the strategic planning and business development for UCSF Health as well as facilitating the integration and alignment of the UCSF Health Affiliate Network. The strategy and affiliates team is highly collaborative and implements an engaging approach to improve UCSF Health's market position and top-line revenue and bring to fruition the many joint ventures and alliances it has established in support of its strategic vision.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related area or four years of relevant experience.
- Three or more years of relevant experience.
- In-depth understanding of decision support systems, with knowledge of business statistics, quantitative methods, relational databases, business development scorecards, data modeling, and performance and profitability analysis.
- In-depth knowledge of issues and aspects of clinical finance, planning, financial data management, budget development, and business development. Proficiency in utilizing the tools to produce comprehensive, studies and actionable intelligence.
- Advanced written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to interpret and convey highly sophisticated technical and financial information in a clear, concise manner, and to make cogent presentations of analyses, reports, and investigation results.
- Advanced problem-solving skills analytical ability, and in-depth knowledge of documentation and reporting, with the ability to run highly complex queries and studies, to collect and analyze financial and performance data, and produce relevant, meaningful reports, analyses, and forecasts.
- Note: This job is based in Brisbane and one will have the ability to work remotely 50% of the time, based on business needs.

- Advanced organizational and project management skills, and ability to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule.
- Advanced interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead projects and teams and collaborate productively on highly complex projects with key personnel at all professional and technical levels.
- In-depth ability to work with senior staff and managers across departments, serving as a technical leader and information resource in decision support, and providing recommendations and advice on decision support processes, business and financial issues, and industry trends and advances.
