Construction Surveillance Technician (CST) - SkillBridge Opportunity


The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking a detail-oriented Construction Surveillance Technician (CST) with an active US government security clearance to oversee critical construction activities at our North Logan, Utah campus. This position is available as part of the Department of Defense SkillBridge program, designed to provide transitioning service members with fellowship-style job skills training during the last portion of their military commitment.

Role Overview

In this role, you'll collaborate closely with the Security Site Coordinator (SSC) and SDL Site Security Manager to ensure security protocols are maintained across multiple high-priority construction projects. Join our dynamic team and play a crucial role in safeguarding sensitive information while contributing to the advancement of cutting-edge space technology.

SkillBridge Program Details

  • Duration: Last portion of military commitment (typically 6 months)
  • Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week
  • Location: On-site at SDL in North Logan, Utah
  • Type: Internship with potential for full-time employment upon completion

  • Provides hands-on job skills training in an entry to mid-level career role
  • Offers a smooth transition from military service to civilian employment
  • Creates a pipeline for highly trained, motivated military candidates into SDL
This SkillBridge opportunity follows the DoDI guidance and offers transitioning service members a unique chance to gain valuable experience in the aerospace industry while still receiving military compensation and benefits.

DoD SkillBridge Eligibility

To be eligible for this SkillBridge opportunity, candidates must meet the following criteria:
  • Have served at least 180 days on active duty
  • Be within 12 months of separation or retirement
  • Will receive an honorable discharge
  • Have completed any service TAPS/TGPS (Transition Assistance Program/Transition GPS)
  • Have received written authorization and approval from their Unit Commander to participate in the DoD SkillBridge Program prior to the start of the internship

Tasks include, but are not limited to:
  • Accomplishes opening and closing procedures for the construction site as directed by the Site Security Manager and Site Security Coordinator (SSC)
  • Provides surveillance and monitor the activities of all personnel on the secure project site at all times
  • Identifiesand documents anomalies and variances in construction work performed in accordance with the approved construction plans and government requirements
  • Per the Construction Security Plan (CSP), performs inspections on all construction materials, packages, boxes, crates, tools, and vehicles entering the construction site, searching for prohibited items or anomalies
  • Identifiesanomalies and variances in finished construction work against the official project construction plans
  • Generates daily logs of construction activities and incident reports

Required Education, Experience, and Skills:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and possess an active U.S. government secret security clearance. Top Secret (TS) clearance is preferred
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • General understanding of industrial security, law enforcement, and/or national security
  • General knowledge of blueprints and other building plans
  • General understanding of construction practices
  • Ability to work independently to identify, assess & report unique security situations with innovative solutions geared to facilitate contract performance within the bounds of security requirements
  • Highly proficient written and verbal communication skills with emphasis on clear and cogent presentation of complex information
  • Ability to manage time, make sound decisions, take independent action, analyze problems, and provide focused solutions
  • Must have a professional demeanor, good people skills, ability to communicate effectively, and be able to perform in a multi-task, dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated attention to detail in a large, complex environment
Physical Requirements:
  • This position may require lifting (up to 20 lbs.), standing, walking, and sitting throughout the workday. Candidates must have the physical ability to perform a variety of functions.
  • Must have the ability to walk across uneven surfaces of a construction site, frequently go up and down stairs, and walk long distances.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Top-Secret Clearance with Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) and Sensitive Compartmented Information Clearance (SCI) Eligibility
  • Field experience working ICD-705 construction projects, including escorting construction personnel and verification of building requirements
