Job Overview

This is an onsite position located in Longview, TX

As a key function within Komatsu's Decarbonization and Electrification Group, the Testing and Support Engineer works with a wide range of electrical/mechanical systems such as electric motors, generators, IGBT converters, fixtures and stands, gearboxes, batteries, flywheels, capacitors, hydrogen. The cutting-edge systems this position works with are being developed to replace diesel engine powered machinery currently working in difficult mining environments.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Works on engineering design and test projects in various electrical and mechanical disciplines - motors, generators, IGBT converters, fixtures and stands, gearboxes, batteries, flywheels, capacitors, hydrogen;
  • Collaborates with design engineers and manufacturing engineers on the design, fabrication and manufacturing, documentation and troubleshooting of the various components listed above,
  • Becomes familiar with how those components interface with the other systems on hybrid electrical equipment (such as electric wheel loaders) and the processes used to manufacture.
  • Applies engineering principles to the analysis of the design of motors, generators and gear boxes.
  • Analyzes manufacturing issues related to engineering drawings and models.
  • Becomes familiar with general machine issues in areas such as mechanical, welding, electrical, hydraulic and manufacturing - that are related to correcting issues on existing product lines.
  • Provides hands-on testing, analysis and troubleshooting both in the lab and on equipment operating at customer mine sites.
  • Analyzes field data to determine root cause of a failure of components.
  • Supports engineering investigation of design issues.
  • Prepares project documentation.
  • Creates designs using photos and graphics to illustrate procedures.
  • Creates and illustrates presentations (for both technical and non-technical audiences) to explain complex subjects to other engineers, dealers and to customers.Presents the information to both technical and non-technical audiences,
  • Documents and creates work instructions for motor/generator assembly and testing and for component rebuild to be used by rebuild shops, Product Support, Marketing and Technical Publications.
  • Provides training and auditing to users of the information.
  • Works safely and is an advocate for safety.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required Skills or Experience:



  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical). 2-year degree in engineering or electrical/mechanical related discipline with appropriate experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 5 year's experience is desired on wheel loader or truck motor/generator design, manufacturing, assembly, troubleshooting, maintenance, documentation and repair.Related experience with similar heavy equipment or off-road products may be considered.
  • Proficiency with Word and Excel, PowerPoint; Solid Edge (or other 3D CAD software); Data analysis.
  • Must be highly organized to manage multiple projects at one time.
  • Adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.At times travel will involve 1-2 week trips to overseas locations between sea level and 15,000 ft. elevation. Some long flights may be required to locations such as Africa and Australia.


Preferred Skills and Experience



  • Experience with diesel electric or electric machinery.
  • Background of hands-on repair and troubleshooting of equipment, farm or diesel electric construction equipment/trucks or automotive.
  • Familiarity with common standards is desired: (ISO, IEEE, SAE, ASTM. ANSI, AS, AWS)
  • Vibration analysis experience
  • SAP (or other ERP software),
  • Kn0wledge of Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop for photo editing
  • Experience working in a foreign country.
  • Proficiency in foreign language (Spanish, Portuguese preferred)
