Works with youth and teachers to coordinate educational efforts for those who have special educational needs.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: Coordinates special education, administrative, and counseling activities for students enrolled in Home Campus schools.
  • Develops and implements curriculum, program, and procedures designed to meet the educational needs of all identified special education students enrolled at service delivery sites.
  • Provides for appropriate and accurate assessment and designation of referred students; designs, implements, and manages the IEP process for students complying with all state and federal regulations.
  • Serves as consultant to teachers and other school staff for remediation of communication disorders for identified students.
  • Demonstrates concern and respect for individual students, assumes major responsibility for academic and social growth of each student, and cares for student health and well-being during the school day.
Participates in the administration of the Special Education Program.
  • Designs, implements, and manages a system of information management to tracks student enrollment and attendance.
  • Provides regular program audits to assure compliance with all state and federal regulations and all funding guidelines; provides timely reports of proposed and adopted state and federal regulations.
  • Prepares and monitors budget for Special Education programs.
  • Provides regular program audits to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and funding guidelines.
  • Provides oversight of special education teacher certification, staff development activities, and special education processing to meet state and federal guidelines.
  • Coordinates staff participation in the UNO program and other course work leading to Nebraska Special Education certification.
  • Collaborates with building administrators and supports the teacher evaluation process.
  • Provides support and professional development to certified and support staff in the special education department.
  • Provides all staff professional development opportunities.
  • Prepares and coordinates special education supports that meet the needs of students.
  • Initiates and follows up on contracts with other school districts for services provided.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements pertaining to youth care and education.
  • Ability to motivate and be accepting of students and understand student needs.
  • Ability to communicate in an articulate, professional manner while maintaining necessary degree of confidentiality.
  • Ability to quickly make decisions in sensitive and sometimes critical areas and to adapt responses to situations while maintaining procedural and regulatory integrity.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's Degree in School Administration or Supervisor of Special Education required.
  • Endorsement in Special Education required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in special education required.
  • Current Nebraska Teaching Certificate required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
