Instructional Designer (Hybrid)

The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $27.92- $48.80. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $30.00/hr.

Hybrid, with the expectation of onsite attendance at quarterly meetings.

This position is a part-time one year contract working 20 hours per week.

Involves the development, collection, and refinement of educational materials tailored for engineering courses, including creating quizzes, examples, templates, and study guides. Evaluates and implements best practices through research, develop standardized grading formats, and design feedback mechanisms to enhance student learning and course effectiveness.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Create a repository of course material such as syllabi, handouts, surveys, and assignments from engineering courses at UC Merced to facilitate collaboration and dissemination of resources amongst instructors.
• Enhance formatting and develop standardized template for course material to streamline course development and promote consistency and reliability in the student experience.
• Work with instructors and campus resources to identify and address common student challenges and develop a framework for ongoing collaboration.
• Collaborate with instructors to recommend methods for delivery of course content and effective use of technology that promotes learner engagement and knowledge acquisition.
• Complete testing of content and tools to meet ADA requirements in accordance with defined standards.
• Develop guidance to support instructors in meeting ADA requirements.
• Create generalized guides to support student learning of key transferrable skills that span the breadth of engineering courses, such as critical thinking, communication and problem solving for engineering students.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university. (Required)
• Advanced degree from an accredited university. (Preferred)
• One year of experience teaching, designing instructional materials, or a related field, or a combination of education, training, and experience. (Required)

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

• Proficient at using Canvas/CatCourses learning management system at UC Merced.
• Experienced at teaching students from diverse backgrounds
• Understanding of educational pedagogy, particularly in the context of engineering education.
• Proficient knowledge of fundamental engineering principles and related Math coursework.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
