Job Title: Staff Accountant (Tax Preparation & Bookkeeping)
Job Type: Full-Time
Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant with 2-5 years of experience, specializing in tax preparation and bookkeeping for external clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing tax returns, and ensuring compliance with tax regulations for a diverse portfolio of clients. This role requires strong analytical skills, knowledge of accounting principles, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Tax Preparation:
    • Prepare federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and other entities.
    • Analyze financial information to ensure accurate and timely tax filings.
    • Assist in tax planning and provide clients with strategies to optimize tax liabilities.
    • Stay current with tax law changes and ensure compliance with all tax regulations.
  • Bookkeeping:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for external clients, including processing transactions, reconciling accounts, and preparing financial statements.
    • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions.
    • Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
    • Assist clients with budgeting, cash flow management, and other financial needs.
  • Client Management:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding tax and bookkeeping inquiries.
    • Provide guidance to clients on financial and tax-related matters.
    • Develop strong relationships with clients and ensure high levels of satisfaction with services provided.
  • Compliance & Reporting:
    • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, tax codes, and regulations.
    • Assist in preparing financial reports for both internal and client use.
    • Collaborate with external auditors when necessary to ensure compliance with audit requirements.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in tax preparation and bookkeeping, ideally with experience in a public accounting firm or similar client-focused environment.
  • Strong knowledge of tax laws and regulations, including IRS and state-level guidelines.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, or other cloud-based systems.
  • Experience with tax preparation software (e.g., UltraTax, ProSeries, or similar).
  • Excellent understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for client interactions.
  • CPA certification or progress toward obtaining CPA preferred but not required.

The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
