JOB TITLE:

Post Doctoral Research Associate

JOB PURPOSE:

The Tarwater lab is seeking a highly qualified and enthusiastic individual for a full-time postdoctoral position. The ideal candidate would have a strong background in applying Bayesian methods to mark-recapture analysis and occupancy analysis. The Lab seeks an applicant who is able to develop and apply cutting-edge Bayesian approaches to ask questions about changes in the demography and community of tropical birds using a long-term (1977-present) mark-recapture study in central Panama. The successful candidate will work on questions of interest to the Tarwater lab but will have the flexibility to develop their own research questions using this unique and growing dataset. The successful candidate will conduct cutting-edge demographic analyses, contribute to writing manuscripts, and have the opportunity to collaborate with students. We seek a candidate with an outstanding academic background who is passionate about Bayesian and demographic analyses.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Analyze long-term data sets on demography
  • Write peer-reviewed manuscripts
  • Apply Bayesian methods to analyze data sets
  • Participate in the lab, including working with students

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: PhD degree in biology, natural resources management, wildlife biology or related field

Experience: Published manuscripts (or ones in review) using Bayesian methods

A Doctoral Degree is required for this position, however, consideration will be given to applicants that are currently pursuing their Doctoral Degree and will complete the degree prior to starting work.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrated clear, articulate, and respectful written and oral communication skills
  • Experience and demonstrated ability to effectively work independently and as a team
  • Effective time management skills, clear organization and prioritization of time-sensitive tasks
  • Peer-reviewed publications (or in review) using Bayesian methods with mark-recapture data
