JOB TITLE:

Assistant Professor, Philosophy and Religious Studies

JOB PURPOSE:

The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, University of Wyoming, invites applications for a tenure-track position in Religious Studies, specializing in world Christianity. Applicants must have a complete PhD in Religious Studies or related discipline at the time of appointment.

Candidates must have primary expertise and teaching experience in world Christianity, either historical or contemporary. Proficiency with theories and methodologies in the academic study of religion is also required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will teach lower-level undergraduate courses in Religious Studies (e.g. History of Christianity, Introduction to World Religions), upper-level undergraduate courses reflecting specific areas of specialization, and will complement existing faculty with North American and European specializations. We are specifically interested in areas of specialization that include African, Asian, and Latin American Christian traditions, and the "southern shift" in world Christianity.

COMPETENCIES:

Candidates must have primary expertise and teaching experience in world Christianity, either historical or contemporary. Proficiency with theories and methodologies in the academic study of religion is also required.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Complete Application

2. PhD in hand at time of appointment

3. Specialization in world Christianity

4. Evidence of effective teaching

5. Ability to teach using Religious Studies or comparative religion approaches

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Demonstrated history of teaching excellence

2. Engagement with interdisciplinary teaching and/or research

3. Publications (or clear plan for future publications) in area of specialty

4. Experience or interest in undergraduate experiential learning (e.g. study abroad trips, place-based learning, field trips)

5. Ability or interest in attracting external grants, international partnerships, or interdisciplinary partnership

Evidence of effective teaching is also required.
