TITLE: TRANSPORTATION DRIVER
REPORTS TO: ASSIGNED SUPERVISOR STATUS: NON-EXEMPT SALARY RANGE: $14.00 FUNCTION: This position is critical to ensure that clients transported by agency vehicles for the Medical Transportation Program serving El Paso County and surrounding areas or other programs reach their destinations in a safe and timely manner. They must observe all government laws and regulations (federal, state, and local) that apply to agencies performing transportation services. They must exhibit the ability to make independent decisions that ensure passenger safety and when appropriate use the most direct route to transport passengers. They are responsible for performing required vehicle safety inspections as scheduled, exhibit good maintenance skills, excellent customer service skills and abide by agency policies and procedures governing the department. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Drive assigned agency vehicles to transport clients within the county service area, to and from appointments, on fixed or express routes, or as assigned, and immediately report any incident or accident to supervisory personnel. They are responsible for completing appropriate paperwork to document incidents or accidents. 2. Responsible for obtaining client's signature to validate that a service was provided; completes all paperwork accurately and thoroughly and submits it to supervisory personnel before leaving for the day. 3. Complete a Pre and Post Inspection Form of assigned vehicle and complete appropriate reports documenting condition of vehicle. 4. Ensure that passengers abide by all Texas safety-belt laws and agency regulations regarding passenger conduct, assist passengers to safely enter and depart vehicle and ensure that all passengers receive necessary assistance and excellent customer service. 5. Report safety concerns or problems with assigned vehicle to supervisor prior to leaving the vehicle yard, or if a problem arose while on the road, immediately after They becomes aware of the problem. 6. Attend training programs designed to ensure that they become proficient and understand safety requirements, good customer service skills, required vehicle maintenance, and department and agency operating procedures. 7. Provide basic vehicle maintenance such that assigned vehicle operates safely, that all vehicle safety features are in good working order and that the vehicle is clean prior to leaving the vehicle yard and upon returning at the end of the working shift. 8. Become proficient in the use of department communication systems necessary to maintain contact while on duty. 9. Perform other duties as assigned. 10. Lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. or more, climb steps/stairs, sit for long periods of time, and knee/squat. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: 1. For Non-CDL Drivers: Possess a valid Texas Driver's License. Must not have traffic moving violations within the last twelve months If a driver transitions into transporting clients via the agency's various medical programs, they will be required to attain and maintain a medical card. For CDL Drivers: Possess a valid Texas Commercial Driver's License with a Passenger Endorsement. Possess and maintain a current medical card. Must not have traffic moving violations within the last twelve months. 2. Large passenger vehicle driving experience is required. 3. Must be knowledgeable about the service area assigned to and be able to read and understand maps in order to reach destinations throughout the service area served by the agency. 4. Due to the need to transport clients needing essential life-saving medical treatment, incumbent must be willing to perform their duties on weekends and most holidays. Schedules are adjusted to allow driver time-off to make up for work performed during holidays. 5. Must be available to work Monday through Sunday as assigned to destinations within the service area. 6. Demonstrate ability to read, write and have oral communication skills such that incumbent understands agency policies and procedures, completes required written reports, training requirements and communicates with clients as needed. 7. Must have basic math skills to receive fares and complete math calculations related to mileage, travel time, hours of work, etc. 8. Bilingual (communicate proficiently in English and Spanish) a plus but not a requirement. 9. Meet state insurance legal requirements. 10. Meet all prerequisites of the position as determined by contract governing this position. |
