Job Title: Senior Instructor - Physician-Ft. Logan

Position #00827226 - Requisition #34839

Job Summary:

The Colorado Mental Health Hospital at Fort Logan (CMHHFL, or Fort Logan) is a 138-bed adult inpatient psychiatric facility located in Denver, CO. It is one of the State's two mental health hospitals that serve an underrepresented patient population with serious mental health disorders.

As a Staff Physician, your role involves working alongside Fort Logan's team of medical physicians to manage the medical problems of the hospital's psychiatric inpatients while collaborating with the attending psychiatrist and multidisciplinary treatment team. You will provide medical care to hospital patients and also provide clinical guidance and support to programs in the Medical Services work unit. The ideal candidate is an experienced primary care physician (family medicine, internal medicine, or closely-related specialty) who is looking for a change from the typical corporate medical practice setting and interested in serving a vulnerable patient population. This is a direct care role and not research-based position.

The Department of Psychiatry welcomes applicants who are international medical graduates and who require J1 visa waivers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides medical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment
  • Completes pre-admission screening and performs various health assessments
  • Provides site coverage for general patient care needs and code-blue emergency response
  • Works with members of the psychiatry treatment team to engage the patient in the treatment of their medical illnesses. Collaborates with other staff and outside consultants in the evaluation and treatment of patients.
  • Assists with On-Duty physician training, orientation, quality reviews, and general communication during sign-out
  • Provides after-hours on-call support to the on-site On-Duty physician in rotation with other physicians as assigned
  • Supports work unit initiatives and programs such as employee health, infection control, and pandemic response
  • Serves on various committees, workgroups and projects. Educates and mentors staff.

Depending on experience and fit, there is also an opportunity an individual with administrative/management experience to provide administrative and medical direction for the work unit and its programs

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite at the Fort Logan Campus located in southwest Denver
