Description

This is a clinical position performing patient care duties for patients needing hand therapy treatment.


Examples of Duties

Administration 5%

A. Evaluates and recommends new technology applications to assure state-of-the-art hand therapy procedures and techniques.

B. Assists in devising and updating time-oriented protocols of upper extremity rehabilitation in collaboration with physicians according to specific injuries treated.

C. Assists in determining and monitoring documentation system for patient treatment in association with M.D. and requirements of the institute.

D. Assists in planning and directing the receipt, storage, maintenance and distribution of department supplies and equipment.

E. Assists in ensuring that a professional environment is maintained with regard to therapist/client relationships and the physical working area of clinic.

F. Attends professional development meetings.

G. Assists in developing and implementing a clinical field work program for occupational therapy students.

Teaching 5%


A. Participates in the development and implementation of specific undergraduate curricula in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

B. Participates directly in the Plastic Surgery residency training and other appropriate residency training.

C. Participates in continuing education programs in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery within the clinical faculty and for practicing physicians in the area.

D. Provides a role model as a teacher in Occupational therapy.

Research 5%

A. Promotes research and scholarly activity within the Division by example and encouragement and by participation in research endeavors.
B. Provides a role model as an investigator and medical writer.

Clinical 85%

A. Reviews charts and recommends and/or provides appropriate rehabilitative intervention.

B. Reviews prescription and schedules evaluations, treatment, and/or splint.

C. Provides prompt attention to referrals received, using resources in an efficient and productive manner.

D. Participates in the review of treatment plans, modalities, and splints to assure appropriateness to achievement of identified goals.

E. Monitors patient progress between physician visits; notifies physician when situation warrants the physician's attention.

F. Monitors patient progress and suggests modification of treatment plan as appropriate.

G. Develops appropriate home or community programming to maintain and enhance the performance of the client in their own environment.

H. Assures termination of services when benefits have been optimally achieved.

I. Assures results of client evaluation, treatment, follow-up, and termination of services have been adequately documented.


Qualifications

1) Licensure as an Occupational and/or Physical Therapist in the State of Illinois; AND
2) Attainment of Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) or exam eligible
