Summary:

This position is responsible for performing all routine procedures in orienting, sectioning, and staining tissue specimens to produce slides which will aide pathologists in diagnosis. The position requires team work to achieve common goals and meet deadlines to provide quality care to clients and patients.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Embed, cut, and stain tissue blocks according to designated procedures
• Maintains productivity standards
  1. Microtomy 20 blocks/hour
  2. Embedding 50 blocks/hour
• Perform advanced staining
• Prepare reagents and stains according to designated procedures
• Submit derms and one-steppers

• Provide backup for Grossing Tech when needed

• Maintains knowledge of current CAP requirements
• Maintains equipment, instruments, and supplies as needed
• Perform or assist with validation studies
• Assists in operational oversight
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education/Certifications

• HT or HTL ASCP certified

Skills and Abilities

• Two years of laboratory experience
• Knowledge in medical terminology
• Ability to use a computer.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks.
• Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
