Part Time Tour Guide (American Sign Language Knowledge)

Full Time Position Available. Individual must be able to serve as a Host/Hostess and conduct tours for a U.S. Government agency. Must be fluent in hosting tours and able to understand and translate for those that need American Sign Language, be well-groomed, articulate, dependable, have strong interpersonal skills, exceptional customer service experience, and work well under pressure. Position requires basic computer skills to research and provide information. Must have general understanding of American history as well as knowledge of antiques and artifacts.

Essential Functions



  • Must have one year experience as an ASL interpreter and read another person's signing well.
  • Must be able to sign fluently in American Sign Language and be Certified.
  • Greets and registers guests; distributes any required identification badges or safety devices.
  • Plans expeditions, instruction, and appropriate commentary based on environmental conditions and client's skills and ability levels.
  • Provides guests and visitors with initial safety and administrative information and direction.
  • Conducts tour or excursion while providing interesting and entertaining information about popular locations or specific points of interest.
  • Retells and relays important or interesting historical facts, dates, and anecdotes.
  • Engages wit and charm to enhance the guest experience.
  • Tailors tour content to the age and interest of guests and visitors.
  • Facilitates rich discussions that maintain visitors' interest.
  • Maintains compliance with all applicable safety practices, environmental regulations, and establishment policies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Conduct guided tours to variety of visitors including Government officials, special visitors, school groups, civic groups, and special interest groups.
  • Maintain current CPR certifications from a program consistent with or provided by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Stand ready to and perform CPR when police officers and health unit personnel are not immediately available.

Physical Demands




  • Prolonged periods standing and walking.



  • Physically able to speak for long periods of time while walking without becoming winded.



  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.




Travel Required




  • No travel required.




Required Education & Experience




  • Have customer service experience. Experience in a visitor center or public tour service preferred.



  • Have at least one (1) year public speaking experience to larger groups (over 30 people), involving making high-level concepts accessible to a variety of ages.




Work Authorization/Security Clearance Requirements




  • Must receive Clear Background Investigation conducted by Treasury Department
