Position Overview


Essential Job Duties
The Bezos Center for Sustainable Protein at North Carolina State University is supported by a $30 million grant award from the Bezos Earth Fund. The Center comprises a dynamic, collaborative team of researchers, educators, practitioners, trainees, and staff led by Professor Rohan Sirwaiker, Co-Director & Chief Scientific Officer, and William Aimutis, Co-Director & Chief Operating Officer. Together with academic and industry partners, the Center will advance research, workforce development, and outreach related to the biomanufacturing of diverse types of sustainable proteins while serving as a global knowledge and networking hub.

We are seeking highly motivated candidates for a postdoctoral researcher to support the Center's workforce development programs and their respective constituents, to include students, faculty, and industry partners. These programs (and respective constituents) may include REUs, industry internships, and new academic and professional curricula and certifications.
The primary responsibilities for this role include:

  • Contributing to the development and implementation of the Center's various workforce development programs.
  • Providing administrative support and oversight of the various workforce development programs.
  • Conducting program evaluations and data analyses to inform program improvements.
  • Teaching/guest lecturing in relevant academic and professional programs with expertise about sustainable/alternative proteins for diverse constituents, including community, national, and global groups.
  • Writing grants as new projects are developed within the Center.
  • Contributing to the mentoring of REU and graduate students.
  • Contributing to the Center's public engagement and outreach activities.



Current appointment is for 1 year, with a possibility of an extension depending on performance and continuation of funding.

This position will report to both Dr. Sylvia Nassar and Dr. Michelle Schroeder-Moreno.
Other Work/Responsibilities

  • Translating relevant findings into journal manuscripts and conference abstracts/presentations.
  • Contributing to annual reports to be submitted to the sponsor, as needed.


Requirements and Preferences


Work Schedule Monday through Friday 8:00AM - 5:00PM; may need additional hours outside of this timeframe during certain programmatic activities.
Department Required Skills

  • Ph.D. in STEM education, career development, teaching and learning, or closely related fields.
  • Knowledge of science education, curriculum development, research design, career development, and developing extension programs.
  • Experience in qualitative methods, quantitative methods, academic writing, presenting, and publishing.
  • Familiarity with food and agriculture systems, sustainable/alternative proteins, and/or emerging technologies in food/agriculture systems.
  • Experience of engaging with a broad array of audiences (e.g., researchers, extension personnel, technicians, farmers, the press, international researchers and students, the general public).
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Expertise with word processing programs, spreadsheets, survey tools, and video editing software.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiatives, actively communicate, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate and work well within teams.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Experience designing and implementing curriculum and professional development.
  • Teaching and/or training experience.
  • Knowledge of web-based collaborative tools and project management platforms.
