Postdoctoral Associate

The Department of Prevention and Community Health in the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University is recruiting a Postdoctoral Associate focusing on health equity to work with Dr. Carla Berg's research team. This position will be critical in the execution of several research studies in various research phases.

Our research:
1) includes a broad range of methodological approaches (e.g., secondary data analyses, randomized controlled trials, longitudinal studies, qualitative and quantitative research, geospatial analyses, mHealth);
2) focuses on a broad range of multilevel influences (e.g., policy, media, interpersonal, intrapersonal); and
3) addresses the intersection between chronic diseases and infectious diseases in domestic and international settings.

Most centrally, this position will play a key role in:
1) a 5-year R01 study funded by NIDA that focuses on cannabis policy and regulation, marketing and retail, and impact on young adults in the US;
2) a 4-year R01 study funded by NCI that focuses on the impact of state preemption on local tobacco control and tobacco related disparities;
3) a portfolio of research funded by NCI, NIEHS, and Fogarty that focuses on chronic disease prevention in low- and middle-income countries, specifically Armenia and Georgia.

The postdoctoral research associate will have ample opportunities to work with diverse research teams at GW, across the country, and across the globe; develop scientific protocols, data collection tools, etc.; collect data; manage and analyze large data sets; prepare manuscripts (first and co authored papers), abstracts, and grant applications; and play a key leadership role in the team. Within this context, a major focus of the position is the advancement of the postdoctoral research associate's professional development, through gaining a diverse set of research experiences, networking with colleagues, leading their own grant applications (e.g., career development awards, fellowships), etc. This recruitment occurs alongside the implementation of the university-wide diversity and inclusion action plan and the recruitment of faculty with interests advancing public health and health equity in vulnerable populations. The Office of the Vice Provost for Research( OVPR) supports the research infrastructure and facilitates several institutional research initiatives. This position requires Ph.D. in public health or a related field (e.g., sociology, psychology, anthropology, education, statistics). Start date is flexible but preferred by January 1, 2025. Position comes with employment benefits, including health insurance. Salary is commensurate with federal NRSA stipend levels, and funds are available for conference travel. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree (in a relevant discipline with strong quantitative training, including, but not limited to public health, behavioral sciences, psychology, and sociology) at the time the appointment begins. This is a two-year position (possible to extension). A strong quantitative background in statistics, excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to perform both self-directed and guided research are required. The candidate must demonstrate outstanding personal initiative and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. The ability to meet deadlines and efficiently multitask is a must.
