Job Summary

The Employee and Labor Relations (ELR) department is currently seeking a Temporary Employee Relations Specialist to join their team of professionals. Duties include:

  • Meets and counsels with staff and supervisors on employee relations matters.
  • Collects information, reviews complaints and grievances filed by employees and/or supervisors.
  • Recommends resolution strategies for complaints and/or grievances filed.
  • Conducts internal investigations to determine if a violation occurred.
  • Report investigation findings and consults with ELR Director or designee on findings
  • Provides recommendations for corrective action plans, performance improvement plans, or disciplinary action as deemed appropriate.
  • Brings closure to meetings by convening appropriate party(ies) to render investigative outcomes.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation and ensure all investigation activities recorded in the case tracking system (iSight)

Desired Qualifications

  • A Master's degree or juris doctor degree with experience in a similar position at a college or university comparable to FIU.
  • Advanced training in a related field such as labor relations or human resource management.
  • Knowledge of Florida employment laws, in particular the Public Employee Collective Bargaining Act, and the Florida Board of Governors.
  • Familiarity with university organizational structure, policy, and political issues in higher education.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of appropriate experience, or Master's degree.

Work Schedule

  • Monday through Friday
  • 8:30AM - 5:00PM
  • 40 hours a week
Advertised Salary

Total contract: $65,000 - $75,000 (Paid out in biweekly increments based on the contract dates)
