Located in California's Silicon Valley, this facility produces low-to-mid volume New Product Introduction (NPI) runs to full-scale volume. The Fremont facility offers everything from small piece parts to fully integrated and tested systems. In addition, this location offers in-house painting capabilities and flexible logistics solutions in distribution, inventory management and hubbing, as well as repair services. Job Purpose: The Quality Supervisor leads the team of quality inspectors, test, and CMM technicians in daily operations. This role is responsible for ensuring all products meet quality standards through effective coordination of inspection activities, management of the CMM/Metrology Lab, conducting internal process audits, reporting the investigation of customer complaints, and managing interactions with the supply base. You will be a hands-on leader, responsible for training, coaching, and ensuring the team follows all QMS procedures to meet production and quality goals. RESPONSIBILITES: Focus: Day-to-day team leadership, execution of internal and supplier quality tasks, oversight of the CMM/Metrology Lab, and management of the internal audit and customer complaint resolution processes.
- Support Quality Manger to develops, implements, and maintains policies, proceduresin compliance to corporate procurement systems
- Support QEs to maintain and improve the site QMS (including NCR and CAPA system, internal audit, training, etc.).
- Ensures site QMS compliance with ISO 9001:2015, TL9000 and AS9100:2016 by coordinating with QEs and responding to site certification audits.
- Ensures effective quality planning (including PFMEAs, process flows, and control plans) for New Product Introduction (NPI) and production parts.
- Develop additionally sources of quality data and track and report key Quality-related. performance indicators (KPIs), including first pass yield and scrap rates (FPY). - Be an advocate for lean and six sigma manufacturing principles and drive continuous projects.
- Drive cross functional projects with manufacturing, supply chain, and engineering, to verify and validate existing manufacturing processes and capabilities.
- Participate in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews with engineering.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES and TEAM DEVELOPMENT:
- This role is to focus on the leadership, motivation, and professional development of the QC staff (ICQC, IPQC, FQC, CMM inspection, and contributing advanced technical expertise in quality engineering, CMM, audits, and supplier management.
- Support Quality Manager to ensure that the individual and group's objectives and processes align with the overall business direction. Evaluates and supports QC to achieve their objectives, and removes barriers for success.
- Support Manager for hiring, onboarding, and training of new team members.
- Support Manager to evaluating team performance, and disciplinary action as required.
- Leads, coaches, and mentors ICQC, IPQC, FQC, test technicians, and CMM technicians.
- Be an outspoken advocate for a "Quality First" culture throughout the plant.
- Manage daily quality work assignments, training initiatives, scheduling, timecards, and overtime to ensure adequate coverage.
- Conducts performance reviews, sets clear objectives, and provides regular feedback to foster employee development.
INTERNAL QUALITY AND AUDITS:
- Ensure the team effectively maintains the Non-Conforming Reporting (NCR) system for internal issues.
- Document audit findings, issue non-conformances, and drive the timely closure of associated corrective actions.
- Support QEs conduct internal process audits according to the established schedule to ensure compliance with the QMS (ISO 9001/AS9100).
- Serve as the first point of escalation for quality issues identified on the production floor, leading initial containment action.
- Track and report daily/weekly team KPIs, including inspection throughput, first pass yield, and internal NCR aging.
CUSTOMER and SUPPLIER MANAGEMENT:
- Expediently and effectively communicates with customers on quality escapes, visits, and escalations.
- Addresses customer escapes by driving cross-functional teams to develop and implement robust corrective actions (RCCA/8D).
- Developing and maintaining a supplier performance evaluation system (scorecards) based on key metrics such as DPPM, On-Time Delivery, and SCAR responsiveness.
- Planning, scheduling, and leading supplier audits (both remote and on-site) to assess QMS compliance, process controls, and capacity.
- Support QE issuing and managing Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) and working with suppliers to ensure effective root cause analysis and corrective action.
- Conducting regular supplier performance reviews (e.g., Quarterly Business Reviews) to drive continuous improvement.
CMM/Metrology Lab Management:
- Manage the day-to-day workflow and prioritization of the CMM inspection requests.
- Ensure all metrology equipment is maintained and calibrated in compliance with QMS requirements.
- Oversee the development, validation, and maintenance of CMM programs.
- Provide technical guidance and training to CMM programmers and operators.
- Lead measurement system analysis (MSA), correlation studies, and gage R&R activities.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in a technical field preferred, or equivalent experience (minimum 16 years)
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in quality engineering or related area in a manufacturing environment with exposure to the following manufacturing processes: sheet metal fabrication, welding, painting, complex electromechanical integration, CMM, and clean room assembly.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in team management (15+ nonexempt employees).
- Experience with reading and interpreting GD&T requirements required.
- Advance knowledge and hands on experience with quality tools including process flowcharts, FMEA's, control plans, CAPA, RCCA, 5Whys, Fishbone, and 8D required
- Experience working with internal audits to ISO 9001, IP9000, and AS9100 standards is a plus.
- Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies including statistical analysis techniques (Design of Experiments, Statistical Process Control (SPC), etc) preferred.
- Experience with machining and system integration/e-mechanical assembly preferred.
- Strong hands-on experience with CMMs, laser scanner with programming experience (e.g., Calypso, PC-DMIS) and experience with MSA/Gage R&R activities is required.
- Direct experience managing supplier non-conformances and the SCAR process.
- ERP, Oracle, Agile experience desirable
- Experience communicating (verbal and written) directly with auditors, customers, and suppliers on quality issues is required.
