Job Summary:

Under the limited progressing to general supervision of the Building/Grounds Superintendent, operate a refuse vehicle. Follow environmental and governmental laws on what can/cannot be landfilled. Perform daily operator maintenance on the vehicle per C.D.L. requirements. Assist in loading and emptying of refuse and must be able to work outside in varying weather conditions. Substitute operator of various pieces of equipment. This position requires a high degree of driving skills and safety consciousness due to the high concentration of pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic.


Responsibilities:
Operates large solid waste removal trucks and heavy equipment to collect, transport, and dump the institution's solid waste and recycling materials while ensuring compliance with environmental and governmental laws on what can/cannot be landfilled.

  • 25% Collects and transports waste, recycling, and compostable materials and ensures materials are disposed of property based on environmental and governmental laws and the institution's safety and bio-hazard standards
  • 25% Operates waste and recycling vehicles and other equipment; and navigates vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and parking lots
  • 20% Inspects, maintains, and repairs vehicles daily based on established requirements
  • 15% Identifies and reports all refuse containers and equipment in need of repair or replacement
  • 5% Collects and transports various types of metal and materials.
  • 5% Performs snow removal duties in assigned areas when necessary.
  • 5% Performs refuse collection for special events as needed.

A minimum of 1 year experience of driving and operating heavy duty trucks with air brakes


License/Certification:

Required
Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards

Preferred
Forklift Operator Certification

CDL - Commercial Drivers License
Class B


Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 4AM- 12:30PM, Rotating Saturday 6AM- 10AM

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
