POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Manager, Rehab Services and in close cooperation with the Medical Staff, provides for patient rehabilitation and work of the Occupational Therapy Department. Involves working with all age groups including neonates, infants, toddlers, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates ability to correctly assess the prognosis of the patient's condition, dysfunction, and/or disability including all age groups: neonates, infants, toddlers, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
  • Develops an appropriate patient rehabilitative/treatment plan and goals.
  • Administers the rehabilitation/treatment plan for the patient.
  • Assists the Manager, Rehab Services in areas of departmental responsibilities.
  • Communicates with physician, social worker and/or nursing staff regularly regarding patient progress.
  • Delegates patient care to COTA and monitors plan of care.
  • Delegates appropriate tasks to supportive personnel.
Additional Duties
  • Participates in patient care staffing meetings.
  • Attends various Performance Improvement and patient safetymeetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Assists the Manager, Rehab Services in development of newprograms for care to meet needs of our customers.
  • Assists the Manager, Rehab Services with departmental functions including: operations, staffing, budgeting, PI compliance and training.

Work Relationship:

  • Reports directly to the Manager, Rehab Services.
  • Works closely with assigned employees and peers.
  • Frequent contact with employees and volunteers.
  • Frequent contact with physicians, patients and families.
  • Occasional contact with vendors, public, civic organizations, regulatory agencies and other provider organizations.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed largely in a pleasant hospital environment with minimal chance for personal injury.
  • Occasionally works outside such as to ambulate/transfer a patient.
  • Occasionally works in people's homes performing Home Health OT.
  • Regularly works in offsite settings such as nursing homes and schools.
  • Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Occasionally exposed to hazardous material such as needle puncture, blood and body fluids.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the ability to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb stairs, balance, kneel, push and pull objects, do prolonged standing, walking and sitting.
  • Requires the ability to carry 35-50 pounds and to lift between 51-74 pounds.
  • Requires the use of hands to do simple and firm grasping, fine , deep and/or strong manipulations, and to feel size, shape, temperature and texture.
  • Requires the ability to be exposed to marked changes in temperature and humidity.
  • Requires the ability of adequate hearing, near and far vision, color discrimination and depth perception, and the ability to read, write, and speak English fluently and do basic mathematics.
  • Able to operate, and use safely, assigned equipment including knowing indications and contraindications, set-up, and clean-up following treatment of a patient. (See attached competency)
