JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Leadership Development, Culture and Student Programs (LCS) at the Penn State Applied Research Lab (ARL) is hiring a Postdoctoral Scholar interested in the field of workforce education and projects focused on STEM workforce development, transformative workplace experience, and career development programming.

The post-doctoral scholar will have the opportunity to research student and workforce development designed to increase STEM talent for an organization uniquely focused on applied research for the defense of our nation. This research includes collaborating with ARL's research offices and enterprise operations partners to manage, evaluate, and expand ARL's flagship Student Opportunities in Applied Research (SOAR) internship program and support the management of ARL's graduate leadership and professional development program. They will also have the opportunity to collect, analyze, and synthesize data to propose, plan, and conduct projects designed to increase the transition of promising interns to full time ARL staff and develop and implement career development programs for the student workforce at ARL. The post-doctoral scholar will work directly under the mentorship of Dr. Dara Sanoubane, with additional opportunities for mentorship from others within LCS.

A Ph.D. degree in Education, Business Administration, Communication, Human Resources, Learning and Performance Systems, Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Psychology Counseling Education, Education Policy Studies, or related field is required by the start date.

A successful candidate will:

  • Have been exposed to or involved in the research, development, implementation, and leading of programs and services for college students or educational programs.

  • Have experience effectively delivering presentations to professionals, students, educators, and other organizations in both large and small settings.

  • Hold skills to be a collaborative and organized self-starter with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication (both oral and written) skills, along with demonstrated commitment to diversity and teamwork.

  • Possess proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Have a desire to or experience collaborating with students from marginalized populations that are underrepresented in STEM majors and careers.

  • Are skilled with various technologies including survey tools (e.g., Qualtrics); social media platforms such as LinkedIn, student information systems (SIS), learning management systems (LMS), Confluence, JIRA, and SharePoint.

  • Have participated in or built and implemented learning modules or curriculums.

This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of renewal, dependent on availability of funds.
