Description of Work
The Department of Music and Visual Arts at Elizabeth City State University is seeking a piano accompanist to assist with applied rehearsals, Student Recitals, Juries and University Choir. The primary purpose of the position is to accompany applied voice and instrumental students during studio lessons, classes, masterclasses, recitals, and other performance related activities as well as assist with University Choir. The accompanist will provide appropriate piano accompaniment for voice and/or instrumental classes, studios, and recitals; provide six hours per week for University Choir Rehearsals. Other job assignments might include accompanying for auditions, recordings, ensembles and juries. Some nights and weekend work are required.
Hours/Time commitment: 212 hours per semester (average)*
*There is a lesser time commitment in the Fall, and a greater one in the Spring due to Senior Recitals.
Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position
B.A. / B.M. in Piano; piano performance or collaborative piano; performance experience in a wide variety of musical styles; excellent sight-reading skills are required
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
Management Preferences
M.M. in Music and one to two years of experience and experience in an educational setting is preferred
