Description

The incumbent will provide outpatient services for SIU Department of Psychiatry, the SIU Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), and collaborating agencies as well as covering the SIU adult inpatient service at Springfield Memorial Hospital and St. John's Hospital on weekends and holidays. The ability to provide ECT is essential. The incumbent will provide clinical and didactic training and establish lines of research.


Examples of Duties

15% Teaching
* Carry out delegated responsibilities concerning the instruction of medical students, residents and fellows in the discipline of psychiatry. This includes participation in and direction of formal rounds, conferences, and seminars: leadership and instruction during formal and informal clinic, outpatient and inpatient. Ensures the clinical teaching of residents and students on the clinical services occurs effectively.
* Serve as mentor with second year student small group during neuroscience block once as deemed appropriate.
* Participate in residency didactics as assigned.
* Present at Grand Rounds or Interdisciplinary Conferences.
* Provide clinical supervision to residents in Psychiatry.
* Moderate Resident Journal Club and case conferences as needed.
* Serve as a mentor for psychiatry clerkship.
* Serve as a moderator for psychiatry Student Journal Club.
80% Service (Patient Care)
* Provide service to the SIU Federally Qualified Health Centers at one or more of their locations in Central Illinois.
* Maintain professional outpatient practice in accordance with SIU HealthCare policy.
* Participate in call scheduled and other routine faculty coverage duties such as inpatient and consultation-liaison coverage at HSHS St. John's Hospital and Springfield Memorial Hospital including coverage of ECT.
3% Research
* Establish lines of research on own or in collaboration with colleagues.
* Publish one (1) peer-reviewed article every five (5) years
* Develop a line of publishable scholarly activity.
* Supervise resident research as applicable.
* Maintain certification per Springfield Committee on Research Involving Human Subjects (SCRIHS).
2% Administration/Professional Services
* Participate in administrative meetings as assigned.
* Serve on departmental and school committees as required and represent the department as needed to other organizations.


Qualifications

1. Must possess an MD or DO degree

2. Must have completed 4 years of approved residency training in Psychiatry

3. Board Eligible/Board Certified in Psychiatry

4. Licensed or Elible to be Licensed to Practice in the State of Illinois

5. Expected to achieve and maintain board cerfification within 3 years if not boarded at time of hire

6. Must have sufficient experience in ECT to be privileged at assigned hospital -- SIU will provide training if necessary.

7. Must be willing to be trained in the provision of TMS

8. Must have experience providing services to multicultural populations; experience dealing with underrepresteed minority populations and be sensitive to the needs of minority populations.
