Physician Assistant II, Combined
Overview The Physician Assistant, is qualified by training and experience as determined by the supervising physician, may conduct physical examinations, perform inpatient and outpatient medical treatments, perform and assist with surgical and diagnostic procedures in office or affiliated hospitals, or tasks as delegated by the supervising physician which fall within the normal scope of practice of the supervising physician. The primary work schedule for this position will be 3pm - 11pm or 11pm - 7am (2nd/3rd shift). When needed office hours in clinic will 8:30am - 5pm. This will be scheduled according to the need of the Department and Supervising physician. Responsible for practicing in several surgical areas including primarily in trauma, acute care surgery, and general surgery inpatient patients services and office clinic as needed. There will also be an opportunity to work with plastic surgery and surgical oncology when the needed. May also have the responsibility for education, research, and administrative services. The Physician Assistant will assist with hospital procedures, hospital rounds, discharging patients and any other functions performed by the supervising physician for which he/she is qualified and are delegated by the supervision physician. The Supervising (Collaborating) Physicians is responsible for overseeing the activities of, and accepts the responsibility for the medical services rendered by a Physician Assistant. The supervising physician need not to be physically present at all times of the services but shall be immediately available by telecommunications and within reasonable travel distance to assume or assist with patient care. The physician and Physician Assistant are expected to understand and comply with all current laws, rules, and regulations which govern the practice of Physician's Assistant practice application. Responsibilities Examine patients, obtain medical history to include but not exclusive of current complaint, past medical history, family medical history, social history, medications, allergies, compliance with previous treatments and care plan, and determine which diagnostic and therapeutic procedures have been done.
Qualifications Masters in Physician Assistant. Experience with patients in a surgical setting is preferred. Must be a licensed PA by the Virginia Board of Medicine and a certified physician assistant by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
