JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Postdoctoral Position in Electronic Cigarette Research at Penn State College of Medicine A postdoctoral research position is immediately available in the Penn State Center for Research on Tobacco and Health and Department of Public Health Sciences within the Penn State College University of Medicine in Hershey, PA. The position involves working on NIH-funded research projects involving the impact of oxidants derived from tobacco products on short and long-term effects on lung health. This position focuses on the role of electronic cigarette-derived oxidants on the development of lung cancer. The postdoctoral fellow will conduct laboratory research on the chemical composition of e-cigarette aerosols and tobacco smoke with a particular emphasis on free radicals and other oxidants and their impact on biological markers of oxidative stress. In addition, they will perform studies in laboratory animal models to assess the impact of aerosol and smoke exposure on specific cancer-related pathways in the lung. Qualified individuals should have a strong interest in the areas of oxidative stress, free radicals, tobacco, and lung cancer. Ideal candidates will have research experience with free radical chemistry, chromatography, and oxidative stress and its biological effects. Candidates should be well organized, experienced in working in a multidisciplinary team, and have good writing skills. The postdoctoral scholar will be expected to author publications resulting from their research and will be provided mentored opportunities to obtain independent grant support in later years of their fellowship.
