Afghan Community Peer Support Specialist

Afghan Community Peer Support Specialist will provide advocacy, service connection and skills training to Afghan community members in partnership with Afghan Community Case Managers and the Stakeholder Engagement Liaison.

Compensation & Benefits:



  • Estimated Starting Salary Range for Afghan Community Peer Support Specialist: Pay commensurate with experience.
  • Full time benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, and other possible benefits as provided.

Afghan Community Peer Support Specialist Responsibilities Include:



  • Provide advocacy and engagement with and on behalf of community members to community partners, local non-profit agencies, employers and social adjustment entities.
  • Provide resource sharing and skill building supports, including around employment, education, cultural orientation, transportation and social services.
  • Assist in securing employment and vocational opportunities in partnership with Afghan Community Case Managers.
  • Organize and implement community education opportunities related to employment, English language literacy and social adjustment.
  • Collaborate with local employers, employment programs, vocational programs, English language programs, financial wellness programs and social services offices providers to ensure required services deliveries to Afghan community members.
  • Provide financial wellness engagement, budget training and other sustainability planning services to Afghan families in the program.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Afghan Community Peer Support Specialist Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:



  • One year experiance in social work, counseling, or related fields preferred.
  • Lived experience in going through refugee resettlement and/or humanitarian parole processes.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bilingual or Multilingual: (Pashto and/or Dari) communication skills are required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively via oral and written means.
  • Ability to present a positive demeanor to individuals, their families, staff, supportive services personnel, and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively via oral and written means.
  • Ability to travel between various local working locations
  • History of community engagement and community organizing.
  • Ability to remain calm during difficult circumstances and emergencies.
  • Advanced knowledge employment services and social adjustment services.
  • Proficient in utilizing Outlook, Word and Excel; PowerPoint, Access, Visio.
  • Must pass pre-employment requirements of Cherokee Federal.
