Position Summary
The Associate Dean for Research and Scientific Advancement ( ADR) leads the research mission of the School of Nursing ( SON) in collaboration with the Dean and other administrators. This includes assisting in shaping the vision for the school's research and scholarly activities and ensuring its success in achieving its research goals. The person has administrative authority and discretion for grant oversight, grant submissions, grant approvals, and implementation of grant budgets, activities, and evaluation within the state and federal law, UNC and UNCG guidelines, funding source requirements and restrictions, and Dean approvals. This position serves as one of the signatory authorities for the School of Nursing's internal and external grant submissions, collaborating on salary efforts on grants, in-kind or matching funds, and oversight for grant principal investigators in collaboration with the Dean and department chairs. The ADR must have experience obtaining external funding, mentoring faculty members, budget oversight and financial management, personnel management, strategic planning, mission evaluation, Institutional Review Board experience, and experience supervising staff. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills along with expertise in conflict resolution and problem-solving are essential. This position deals with highly confidential information and decision-making and reports to the Dean.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in nursing or related discipline.
  • 5-7 years of experience conducting research in the nursing discipline, with a preference for experience in an academic health science setting.
  • Full-time senior faculty rank (Associate Professor or Professor), tenured.
  • Expertise in research methods and grant management.
  • Administrative experience at a senior level.
  • Significant record of research and scholarly achievement.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates
Preferred Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of experience conducting research in the nursing discipline, with a preference for experience in an academic health science setting.
  • A degree in nursing if PhD is in a related field
  • Significant experience in mentoring junior faculty and students in research

  • NIH or equivalent funding
