Job Summary

Gateway Community College is hiring for an exciting, entry-level, specially-funded position of a Nursing Laboratory and Simulation Technician! The person selected for this position will provide support to the Nursing laboratory and simulation center by preparing, monitoring, and maintaining related equipment, space, supplies, and other resources used for simulation/laboratory instructional purposes. The ideal candidate will have a background in healthcare and a willingness to learn department operations in an academic setting.

Essential Functions

50% - Prepare, monitor, maintain, and service equipment, space, supplies, and other resources used during nursing simulation/laboratory instruction as directed by managers/coordinators; Adhere to safe practice, confidentiality, and simulation/laboratory ethics related to student learning; Apply INACSL Healthcare simulation standards of best practice.

20% - Utilize communication and interpersonal skills to interact with supervisors, colleagues, students, and the general public to convey information and receive work direction related to nursing simulation/lab equipment, space, supplies, and other resources.

20% - Collaborate with the lab and simulation team to create and maintain laboratory/simulation schedules and inventory; Maintain professional development in the specialty of simulation.

10% - Organizing, cleaning, and maintaining the simulation and laboratory environment; other duties as assigned by the department chair or designee

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and one (1) year of laboratory experience such as maintaining equipment, facility space, supplies or other resources used for laboratory purposes in the area of assignment.

OR

A High School Diploma/GED and three (3) years of laboratory experience such as maintaining equipment, facility space, supplies or other resources used for laboratory purposes in area of assignment

Desired Qualifications

A. Experience as a certified or licensed healthcare professional (i.e. CNA, PCT, EMT)

B. Experience in working in an educational simulation/lab setting.

C. Experience with mid- to high- fidelity simulation equipment set-up and/or maintenance.

D. Experience with troubleshooting various technology such as visual/audio systems, virtual/mixed reality systems

E. Experience with online office systems such as Google drive and Google calendar (i.e. Google Suite).

F. Experience working with a diverse population of students in an educational setting.

Special Working Conditions

  • Will be required to travel or be assigned to 18th Street or Washington Street locations
  • Will require some evenings or weekends
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
  • May be required to lift or carry up to #50 lbs
  • MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visas
  • This position is scheduled to start as soon as possible
