Nursing Academic Chairperson

The Department of Nursing at Chicago State University invites applications for the position of chairperson. This is a 12-month full-time appointment.

The chairperson provides leadership for the implementation of the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. Additionally, the chairperson participates in research, service and some teaching within the professional programs.

The chairperson provides leadership for the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. The roles and responsibilities of the chairperson are to:
1) Develop and implement immediate and long-range departmental goals and objectives.
2) Prepare schedules for course offerings and for the delivery of instructional services.
3) Coordinate activities within the department and between the department and other units of the university.
4) Maintain communication between the department, the college administrative offices, community, and alumni.
5)Participate in college and university deliberations; contribute to policy formulation.
6)Prepare and administer department budget.
7) Review student grievances and grade appeals.
8) Evaluate, civil service staff and faculty for tenure, promotion, retention, professional advancement increases, and annual review of tenured faculty; make recommendations to the Dean.
9)Supervise the development of the department curricula and improvement of instruction, including selection of texts and instructional materials.
10)Provide classroom instruction as appropriate
11) Communicate and provide information (reports) to the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing ( ACEN)
12)Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the college dean and/or the provost and vice-president for academic affairs.

Qualifications include a Master's in Nursing and an earned Doctorate in Nursing or a relevant field.

In addition to earned doctorate the ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of nursing including practice as a nurse and administrative experience as well as at least 3 years experience in a full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities.

Candidates must hold current Illinois nursing license or eligibility with a good track record of scholarship and grantsmanship.
Experience with programmatic specialty nursing accreditation (Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education)
