Job Summary

Performs the most difficult and complex technical plumbing work in the installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of water, sewer and other plumbing systems and fixtures. May lead and provide oversight for plumbers performing journey-level plumbing work.

Essential Functions

70% - Proactively conducts reactive and preventative maintenance on plumbing fixtures, supply, waste and stormwater systems; cleans sewer and drain lines; completes work orders.

10% - Carries out inspections of fire hydrants, backflows, fire sprinkler systems, flush valves, water main valves, emergency eyewash stations, showers, natural gas systems, and neutralization/interceptor tanks; conducts natural gas safety training and emergency procedures for employees.

10% - Plans and executes the layout, installation, alteration, and repair of fixtures and piping systems for water, waste, drainage, irrigation, natural gas, steam, and compressed air.

10% - Estimates job costs, purchases materials, coordinates work, overseas subcontractors, and maintains required inspection logs; performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and five (5) years of experience performing plumbing work equivalent to journey-level which includes serving in a lead role in journey-level plumbing work or the performance of advanced, or more technical and complex plumbing work.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Desired Qualifications

A. Five (5) years or more recent experience as a journeyman level plumber in a large commercial or industrial environment B. Five (5) year or more experience testing and repairing backflow preventers
C. Two (2) years' experience working with a computerized maintenance management system
D. Three (3) years' experience assisting in renovating facility project
E. One (1) year or more experience reviewing drawings, specifications and blueprints for code compliance and maintenance sustainability

Special Working Conditions

Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense. Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations. May require numerous evenings or weekends. May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen. May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs
