Purpose

Reporting to the Regional President of Liberty Utilities - West Region, the President of California Electric will oversee the safety, operational, financial, and environmental performance of Liberty Utilities California Electric. The role involves steering the strategic direction of the utility and contributing to Liberty's asset, revenue, and earnings growth within the California Electric territory.

Accountabilities

Key responsibilities include managing business affairs, leveraging internal and external resources, and ensuring efficient, quality, and cost-effective management of resources. The President will also be responsible for providing safe and reliable service to customers, managing financial statements, and overseeing rate cases.

Leadership of Business Unit:
o Ensure Liberty operates in alignment with shareholder, customer, and regulatory expectations.
o Manage operations and financial performance, including budgeting, risk management, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
o Develop strategies and plans to meet organizational safety, operational, and financial goals.
o Stay updated on regulatory changes and industry trends to anticipate and address challenges and opportunities.
o Lead and support a team in various operational areas, ensuring compliance with standards and policies.
o Collaborate with the Rates and Regulatory Affairs team on regulatory strategies and filings.
o Participate in strategic growth initiatives and enterprise programs.

Team Leadership:
o Provide optimal service with a focus on safety and reliability.
o Develop and mentor a skilled workforce, supporting talent management and employee engagement.
o Influence team members to deliver business outcomes.
o Ensure compliance with regulations and corporate standards.

Customer and Business Outcomes:
o Manage the utility with a customer-centric approach, balancing reliability, service, and cost.
o Meet billing and customer service objectives.
o Negotiate with internal service providers to achieve business objectives.
o Act as Business Sponsor for rate cases, managing financial statements and executive relationships with key stakeholders.
o Promote the Liberty brand and value propositions.

Education and Experience
  • Post-secondary graduate; strong business, financial, legal, technical, and operations background - Master of Business Administration would be an asset
  • Strong senior leadership skills combined with managing operations and growth initiatives within a regulated utility environment and in customer-facing organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to manage financial aspects of a company, including management of Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statement
  • Prior success and expertise in delivering performance while managing targets in profit, safety, environmental performance, and community relations
  • Proven abilities to build relationships with key stakeholders, including the development of an effective stakeholder management strategy
  • Demonstrated track record of success in driving financial growth and operational productivity
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels, both within the company and externally
  • Familiarity with utility rate case processes considered an asset
  • Ability to originate, reflect upon, articulate, and implement strategies and manage through corporate changes
  • Able to build a strong sustaining culture and secure high levels of employee engagement with expertise in creating an environment resulting in employee satisfaction, creativity, and empowerment
  • Experience in corporate-wide "zero tolerance" of industrial accident programs
  • A mentor/coach, approachable, listener, decisive, delegator, competitive, entrepreneurial, leader
  • Comfortable with reasonable levels of travel within North America

Compensation:

Base Salary Range of $251,458 - $377,188 per year.

Short and Long-Term Bonus Incentives

*Liberty considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education, training and skills, and geographic location. Base pay for this role is expected to fall within the min to mid-point.
