Description

Under the general supervision of the Division Dean, to teach organized classes in accordance with course descriptions, outlines, and class schedules; to evaluate progress of students; to advise students concerning educational matters, to perform other instructionally related duties as assigned. The primary responsibility is to teach up to 10 units (Part-time) in the discipline of History.


Responsibilities and Duties

Duties and responsibilities may include, but not limited to the following:

  1. Conduct organized classes at the instructional level to meet the educational requirements stated in the course description and the course information sheets.
  2. Advise and assist students in achieving stated course objectives. Evaluate the progress of each student and notify students in need of counseling services and/or tutorial assistance. Track student learning outcomes and maintain records of student learning outcomes.
  3. Participate in the departmental process of curriculum review, modification, and the assessment of student learning outcomes in order to make the program successful.
  4. Attend faculty, division, or other on-campus meetings as required.
  5. Participate in the evaluation of course offerings, including the revision of course descriptions and course outlines.
  6. Coordinate with other faculty in the selection of textbooks, audiovisual and other instructional materials.
  7. Keep current with new developments and knowledge in appropriate fields of competency within the framework of support provided by the District.
  8. Maintain necessary records of student enrollment, attendance, progress and grades; prepare and submit required reports to the administration.
  9. Maintain control of equipment, materials and supplies as assigned.
  10. Report to management any condition which might jeopardize the health or safety of students or the public.
  11. Supervise readers as appropriate.
  12. Be familiar with and act in accordance with the Education Code and Board of Trustees policies and procedures.




Qualifications

Ability to:

  • Prepare and present information and material in a classroom instructional situation.
  • Be sensitive to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Knowledge of:
  • Teaching-learning processes with special knowledge about individualizing the instruction program.
  • Education:
  • Meet District minimum qualifications in the assigned discipline.
    • Master's in history OR Bachelor's in history AND Master's in political science, humanities, geography, area studies, women's studies, social science or ethnic studies OR the equivalent.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated teaching experience.
  • Availability to teach in-person classes during the day (7:30-4:30).
  • Desire and ability to teach college courses to high school students.
