About the Job

The individual in this position will work in our research clinic, examining long-term previously recruited participants in the Multi-ethnic study of Atherosclerosis. Successful candidate must have the ability to work as a team player and perform measurements carefully and accurately, communicate well and be comfortable with calling study participants to interview, screen, schedule and do appointment reminders. This position has the responsibility of administering a variety of technical procedures, conducting several types of interviews and questionnaires, tabulating records of response and managing the flow of participants through various stages of the study. Periodic recertification in each performance area is required. This is a long-term study in which retention of the originally recruited participants is critical.

The anticipated start for this role is in July 2024.

Duties and Responsibilities will include:

40% Perform any or all of the following technical procedures:

  • blood pressure measurement, anthropometry, spirometry, cognitive testing and physical function tests

40% Participant Interviews:

  • Conduct Annual Follow-up Health questionnaires over the phone with study participants.
  • Conduct closed and open-ended interviews, over the phone and/or in person, with participants according to specific protocols.
  • Collect and enter data electronically.

20% records maintenance:

  • Maintain participant records and files.
  • Maintain equipment as needed.

Percentages assigned to work duties and responsibilities may change depending on need.
Cross train and learn other duties and responsibilities of the study as needed.

Hourly wage:

  • Starting at $22.71/hour
Qualifications

Required (must be documented in application materials):

  • Three (3) years of experience in an office/research setting which may include customer service, recruiting, communications, survey interviewing, community outreach, public health (related education can count toward years of experience)
  • Ability to communicate and work well with people of diverse age, racial and educational backgrounds
  • Must be comfortable calling study participants to conduct interviews, screen, schedule and do appointment reminders.
  • Basic computer skills which may include Google Aps, Microsoft Word, Excel, Email etc,
  • Ability to learn study specific programs
  • Excellent organizational skills and detail oriented
  • Fluency in Spanish

Preferred:

  • Experience working with and adhering to rigid protocol standards
  • Completed training in any or all of the following technical areas: blood pressure measurement, anthropometry, cognitive testing and physical function tests etc.
  • Experience conducting in-depth survey interviews in person and/or over the phone
  • Health data collection experience
  • Experience in general office procedures
  • Experience working as part of a team

Epidemiology and Community Health:

The Division of Epidemiology & Community Health focuses on disease and health in various populations. Our faculty and students examine the distribution, cause and prevention of diseases, and how human behavior affects overall health.
