Job Summary:



The University of Colorado Department of Pediatrics is seeking an independent investigator working in the area of developmental, stem cell, and regenerative biology of the lung. Specifically, we seek an investigator who will intersect with researchers in the Sections of Pulmonary Medicine and Developmental Biology, the Pediatric Heart Lung Center, and the Breathing Institute. Areas of particular research interest include but are not limited to 1) molecular, genetic, and epigenetic mechanisms of lung development and regeneration, 2) gene regulatory networks and systems biology, 3) animal, iPSC and organoid models of lung development, lung and cardiopulmonary developmental disorders and syndromes, and lung regeneration, and 4) tissue reprogramming and remodeling.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Construct and manage a successful, extramurally-funded research program in lung developmental, stem cell, or regenerative biology.
  • Teach, train, and mentor graduate students, medical students, and fellows.
  • For senior appointees, contribute to mentorship of junior faculty.
  • Contribute to collaborative, multi-disciplinary research programs engaging investigators on the Anschutz Medical Campus, particularly in Pulmonary Medicine, the Pediatric Heart Lung Center, the Breathing Institute, and Developmental Biology.
  • Contribute to an intellectual environment fostering excellence in basic research within the Sections of Developmental Biology and Pulmonary Medicine and the Pediatric Heart Lung Center by publishing high quality scholarly papers and providing research presentations on relevant subject areas and expertise.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Assistant Professor:



  • Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D
  • 3 years of postdoctoral research
  • Experience, as evidenced by significant scholarly publications, in one or more areas of lung development, lung regeneration, or cardiopulmonary disorders


Associate Professor:



  • Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D
  • 4-7 years of related faculty-level or equivalent experience
  • Experience, as evidenced by significant scholarly publications as an independent investigator, in one or more areas of lung development, lung regeneration, or cardiopulmonary disorders
  • Experience obtaining competitive, extramural funding to support research programs


Professor:



  • Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D
  • 7+ years of related faculty-level or equivalent experience
  • Experience, as evidenced by significant scholarly publications as an independent investigator, in one or more areas of lung development, lung regeneration, or cardiopulmonary disorders
  • Experience obtaining competitive, extramural funding to support research programs
  • Evidence of national and international recognition such as appointment to grant review committees and journal editorial boards


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Established track record of creative and cutting-edge research
  • Demonstrable publication accomplishments
  • Strong record of independent and external funding, commensurate with level of experience.
  • Successful record of trainee mentorship, commensurate with level of experience.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Strong commitment to graduate and medical education
  • Ability to construct, coordinate, and mange an extramurally funded research program
  • Knowledge and expertise in at least one of the following areas: lung developmental biology, lung stem cell biology, lung regenerative biology, lung tissue reprogramming and remodeling, lung and cardiopulmonary developmental disorders
  • Aptitude to design and execute quality and cutting edge research
  • Knowledge to create quality publications
  • Capacity to present research to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to foster faculty career development through mentoring/co-mentoring
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills including both written and verbal
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary group to expand methodologically sophisticated research

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting hiring range for this position has been established at HIRING RANGE:

Assistant Professor: $107,000 to $117,000

Associate Professor: $130,000 to $146,000

Professor: $190,000 to $222,000

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
