Job Summary:



Job duties in this faculty position will include teaching, research, and service responsibilities. In addition, specific responsibilities will be as follows: Clinical days involve patients with general neurological and neuromuscular disorders. Every effort is made to enrich the clinics with neuromuscular cases in peripheral nerve diseases including hereditary neuropathies but in the event that there are insufficient patients in this area, available appointment times will be filled with general neurology cases as well. There will be opportunity to perform EMG/NCV studies on patients seen in clinic who need these tests and on other patients as allowable by demand and other personnel performing these studies and their schedules. There will be no inpatient attending responsibilities beyond those of the general weeknight evening call (currently 7 AM-8 PM) on the general neurology service provided by a rotating pool of UCH credentialed faculty (currently about once per month). Participation in all administrative/didactic meetings of the neuromuscular section is expected. In addition there will be involvement in the teaching of students, residents, and fellows (including the neuromuscular fellow(s), and in section and department-wide Quality and Performance Improvement projects. We anticipate that this position will work to develop community outreach and other activities designed to enhance and develop our programs in neuromuscular disease generally and in the area of muscle disease and muscle histopathology.

Neuromuscular Section

The Department of Neurology provides ample research space, dedicated clinical, academic, and research support, and a busy clinical Neuromuscular program. The Neuromuscular multidisciplinary clinic is a Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and ALS Association (ALSA) Care Center as well as Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association (CMTA) Center of Excellence and serves as a regional referral center for an eleven-state referral area with ~3600 annual patient visits, ~1300 NCS/EMG studies and ~200 muscle and nerve biopsies. The program has additionally been recognized as a Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America 'Partner in Care', Inherited Neuropathies Consortium member, Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD) Clinical Trials Research Network member & center for research excellence, Myotonic Dystrophy Research Network member, GRASP-Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy (LGMD) research consortium member, and RYR1 Foundation 'Expert in Care' site. We are also part of the DMD Center of Excellence at Children's Hospital Colorado and a member of the TREAT-NMD Alliance Neuromuscular Network.

A competitive, combined ACGME-accredited Neuromuscular Medicine and UCNS-accredited Clinical Neuromuscular Pathology 1-year fellowship is offered. The program has made significant contributions in basic and applied neuromuscular clinical research and are currently operating 60+ active trials, including 15 research consortia trials. Clinical trials are integrated into daily patient encounters and allow patients access to novel therapies with support from a neuromuscular research program manager, 10 research coordinators and 2 research physical therapists.

The Neuromuscular section, currently has 6 MDs, 5 APPs (2 Physician Assistants, 1 Nurse Practitioner, and 2 Genetic Counselors) and 2 fellows (1 Neuromuscular fellow and 1 Genetic Counseling fellow).

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Assistant



  • Applicants must be Board Certified or eligible to be board certified before start date
  • Completed fellowship training in Neuromuscular Medicine
  • A State of Colorado medical license and DEA license must be obtained on or before hire date


Associate



  • Applicants must be board certified or eligible to be board certified before start date
  • A state of Colorado medical license and DEA license must be obtained on or before hire date
  • Completed fellowship training in Neuromuscular Medicine
  • Applicants must have a scholarly and academic record consistent with appointment at the Associate Professor level in the School of Medicine


Professor



  • Applicants must be board certified or eligible to be board certified before start date
  • A state of Colorado medical license and DEA license must be obtained on or before hire date
  • Completed fellowship training in Neuromuscular Medicine
  • Applicants must have a scholarly and academic record consistent with appointment at the Professor level in the School of Medicine


Preferred Qualifications:



  • A record of previous or current research funding is highly desirable.

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Assistant Professor - $160,000 - $200,000

Associate Professor - $187,000 - $242,000

Professor - $210,000 - $300,000

This position is eligible for the department incentive plan which would be in addition to the base salary.

It is anticipated that salary will be commensurate with American Association of Medical College (AAMC) benchmarks for the proposed academic rank (Assistant, Associate Professor or Professor level).

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
