Description

Responsible for the engineering ownership, creation and improvement of processes and procedures used by various groups such as production, and quality to manufacture machined aerospace components, requiring the exercise of judgment and application of standard engineering principles and practices.

Pursue initiatives to improve effectiveness of the group and increase customer satisfaction.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Under general direction, performs the management of projects related to aerospace component engineering and manufacturing for new and existing parts and assemblies. Establishes manufacturing methods and process sequence necessary to complete parts. Creates models, operation sheets and work instructions using Solidworks software. Initiates Tool & Fixture design concepts and maintains close feedback with other shop floor personnel, management and related customers and vendors. Troubleshoots manufacturing problems and implements method and tool improvements. Writes rework and repair methods for non-conformances and prepares projects timelines. Participates in discussions with customers and suppliers as required. Performs additional duties as requested, including cost estimating.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:



  • Prepare detailed manufacturing plans for the production of aerospace components in accordance with customer drawings, parts lists and specifications. Create CAD models and dimensioned operation sheets in support of this effort.
  • Provide troubleshooting support for CNC machinists/operators, special processing technicians (heat treat, polishing/deburring, shot peening, plating), inspectors (dimensional inspection and non-destructive testing), Quality Engineers and Cell Leaders.
  • Participate in the investigation of technical problems and the establishment of procedures and corrective actions to avoid recurrences.
  • Review and analyze a variety of engineering/inspection data, documents and reports to recommend/implement process improvements to improve efficiency and reduce scrap/rework.
  • Design manufacturing/assembly fixtures and special gaging.
  • Manage New Product Introduction (NPI) for specific product including process creation/development and customer support through first article delivery.
  • Previous experience with Frozen Planning and manufacturing flight critical components a plus.
  • Must work safely at all times, and actively participate in safety improvement initiatives by raising any safety concerns and helping to come up with corrective actions.
  • May be assigned to carry out tasks, not specifically listed, within the scope and skill level of this job description in support of department or cell objectives and to develop individuals' skills.


Working Conditions:

Normal office working conditions with the absence of disagreeable elements. Manufacturing Engineers spend a good amount of time on the shop floor.

Position Requirements

Education & Experience Required:



  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related field. Alternatively, a special combination of education and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments.
  • 5-10 years' experience in Manufacturing; aerospace preferred.
  • Must be able to read, interpret and apply GD&T methods.
  • Must be able to navigate through detailed customer specifications.
  • Experience with milling, turning, grinding; experience with Solidworks, a plus.
  • Experience with NPI development and implementation.
  • Experience working with various metals including steel, aluminum, titanium, magnesium.
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
