As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, as R&D Fabrication Technician, you will engage in all phases of a rapid product development cycle, from conceptualization to formal design, implementation, environmental testing, and final integration.

In this hands-on role, you will work entirely onsite at our Los Angeles Facility with the Space Resources Program team. We're seeking an experienced R&D Fabrication Technician to support and engage in all phases of a rapid product development cycle, from conceptualization to formal design, implementation, environmental testing, and final integration. We value self-motivated, hands-on individuals who can find practical solutions to abstract problems.

In this role, you'll need to demonstrate proficiency in operating CNC equipment, manual bed mills, lathes, and other shop tools. Responsibilities extend to lab organization and maintenance, as well as managing tools and consumables. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a team, facilitating the success of all members in their tasks.

You'll also be expected to actively collaborate with project team members to find solutions that meet design and schedule requirements. These solutions will involve machine and material selection, tooling design, part programming using CAM software, machining or fabrication of parts, inspection, and ongoing communication with the project owner.

Our teams work in fast-paced cycles of design, analysis, and construction to deliver scalable solutions. We're looking for someone adaptable, willing to take action, eager to learn, and committed to safety and quality. Your creativity, innovative spirit, and ability to navigate changing requirements are crucial.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of fabrication experience.
  • Experience programming, setting up, and operating a variety of CNC and manual machines, including but not limited to 3-axis Mills.
  • Experience with R&D Machinist programming
  • Experience working both independently and collaboratively within a team of individual contributors to enable every member to succeed in their respective tasks.
  • Proficiency in developing and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
  • Experience maintaining laboratory in compliance with Environmental Health and Safety.
  • Ability to perform routine cleaning and maintenance of instruments, workspaces, and lab facilities, ensuring a safe and productive work environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, keen attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting or moving heavy equipment up to 40 lbs as needed.
  • This position will require adaptability and the ability to be productive with limited oversight.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e. current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with GD&T and CAD (Creo or similar)
  • Familiarity with typical aerospace systems and operational environments.
  • Hands-on experience installing, operating, and maintaining a variety of laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Experience working in research and development laboratory environments.
  • Relevant certifications related to safety, hazardous materials handling.
  • Proven track record of working successfully between multiple disciplines.
  • Experience in fast-paced R&D environments.
  • Additional machining and fabrication experience, including welding, grinding, honing, wire EDM, waterjet, sheet metal forming and processing, etc.
  • Experience with additive manufacturing machines, especially metal

Compensation Range for:

CA applicants is $35.52-$49.73

Other site ranges may differ
