Position Summary:

The Barista Lead is responsible for providing day-to-day leadership of cafe operations within Retail Food & Nutrition Services. The Lead ensures high-quality service, efficient workflow, staff support, and compliance with operational and safety standards.

Education/Experience:

• High School diploma, GED, or equivalent
• Minimum of 5 years of customer service experience

Knowledge/Skills:

• Strong understanding of retail operations, merchandising, and inventory control
• Demonstrated ability to lead workflow and coordinate team activities
• Ability to lead by example in delivering exceptional customer service, resolving escalated issues, and mentoring team members to enhance service quality.

Duties:

• Coordinate daily cafe operations, including task assignments and workflow management
• Lead and coach barista staff to ensure consistent product quality and customer service
• Monitor inventory levels and support ordering and stock control
• Serve as primary escalation point for customer concerns and service issues
• Ensure adherence to food safety, sanitation, and hospital policies
• Assist with scheduling, onboarding, and training of team members
• Conduct quality checks on beverage preparation, cleanliness, and service standards
• Support implementation of promotions, menu updates, and process improvements
• Collaborate with Retail or Food & Nutrition management on operational needs
• Operate cash register/POS system accurately for all transactions and process customer purchases efficiently while providing courteous and professional service.
• Follow cash handling procedures and ensure compliance with hospital policies related to cash handling, security, and confidentiality.
• Maintain an accurate cash drawer by balancing receipts at the beginning and end of each shift.
• Responsible for following appropriate vendor guidelines aligned with entity specifications.

Salary Range: Minimum 16.65/hour - Maximum 27.50/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
