About the role
Great teams don't just follow a process, they own their practice. As an Agility Lead, you'll serve as Scrum Master for a set of NPT's delivery teams and coach them, in sprints or in continuous flow, to deliver predictably and keep getting better.
Running a meeting well is the starting point. The real work is the preparation, follow through, and judgment behind it. You'll be accountable for whether the teams you support actually work differently over time, and you'll use metrics to show it.
You'll work within our IT Delivery Center of Excellence, partnering with the Center of Excellence lead, who runs quarterly planning, and with the engineer who owns our Jira platform.
What you'll do
Coach teams to deliver

  • Serve as Scrum Master for your Scrum teams, and coach your Kanban teams on flow, work in progress, and service expectations
  • Run and continually improve team ceremonies, with the preparation and follow through that turn meetings into decisions
  • Coach Product Owners on backlog health, prioritization, acceptance criteria, and stakeholder management
  • Remove impediments at the team level, and escalate organizational ones to Center of Excellence leadership

Drive maturity and measure it

  • Set a maturity baseline for each team you support and track progress against it
  • Help define the team health, delivery, and quality metrics the Center of Excellence publishes, and make sure teams use them in retrospectives and planning
  • Design small improvement experiments and measure whether they worked
  • Use flow metrics such as work in progress, cycle time, and aging work to guide coaching conversations

Hold the standard

  • Apply our delivery standards at the team level, including Definition of Ready, Definition of Done, and working agreements
  • Coach teams to raise changes before work begins, complete change records, and meet release gates rather than route around them
  • Hold the standard every sprint: SOC 2 tests whether a control operated consistently, not whether it existed
  • Partner with the platform engineer to fix workflow friction and drive adoption of new capabilities, and with our test strategy lead on recurring quality concerns

Plan and coordinate

  • Prepare your teams for quarterly planning, including backlog readiness, capacity, and dependencies, and facilitate their team planning
  • Carry dependencies between your teams and the wider delivery organization, including through Scrum of Scrums
  • Once a second Agility Lead is in place, coordinate on coverage, practice calibration, and backup

Build the practice

  • Contribute to training materials, playbooks, and templates based on what works with your teams
  • Take part in our community of practice and help calibrate what good coaching looks like
  • Use AI tools connected to Jira and Confluence to cut admin work, so more of your time goes to coaching

What you bring

  • At least 5 years of relevant Agile delivery experience, including at least 2 years serving as a Scrum Master or Agile Coach supporting multiple teams concurrently.
  • Command of both Scrum and Kanban, and the judgment to know which fits each team
  • Specific examples of teams that measurably changed how they work under your coaching
  • Experience using team metrics or maturity assessments to show improvement over time
  • Experience coaching Product Owners and technical leads, not just team members
  • Strong facilitation, direct feedback, and the ability to hold a standard under delivery pressure
  • Working proficiency in Jira and flow metrics, and comfort using AI tools day to day
  • Clear written and verbal communication with team members, technical leads, and business stakeholders
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

Nice to have

  • Advanced certification such as PSM II, CSP-SM, ICP-ACC, or KMP
  • Facilitating quarterly program or PI planning
  • Supporting teams through change controls in a regulated or audited environment
  • Nonprofit or financial services experience

Why you'll like it here

  • Shape how an entire IT organization works
  • A team that values coaching, not just ceremonies
  • Room to grow the practice, from your own teams to the Center of Excellence playbook
  • A mission that matters: NPT helps donors and financial partners put philanthropy to work
