The Travel Radio Frequency (RF) Technician III supports the installation, testing, and maintenance of inbuilding wireless systems under the direction of a Project Foreman. This role requires familiarity with RF cabling, equipment installation, basic DAS and WiFi concepts, and the ability to read floor plans and block diagrams. This role also requires the Technician to serve as the lead field technician for DAS installations, directing a crew of 1-3 technicians, coordinating daily activities with the DAS Foreman, ensuring installation quality, maintaining project documentation, testing, troubleshooting, RF Technicians are fulltime employees and receive full company benefits.


Responsibilities

  • Safely operate basic hand tools and power tools.
  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow all safety policies.
  • Coordinate with Forman for daily/weekly tasks.
  • Lead installation crews of 1-3 technicians.
  • Verify installation quality and adherence to project specifications.
  • Participate in daily safety and work briefings.
  • Read and interpret RF blueprints and project documentation.
  • Install, test, and troubleshoot inbuilding wireless systems including WiFi, DAS, Small Cell, and lowvoltage cabling.
  • Installation of various types of Low Voltage Cable
  • Installation, Inspection, terminating, testing, troubleshooting of ISP/OSP telecommunications systems (Fiber Optics, Category 5, 6, 6A, and associated equipment
  • Install and support:
    • Cable pathways (basket tray, ladder tray, conduit "-4", Jhooks, trapezes).
    • Cabinets, racks, wire management, and grounding systems.
    • RF equipment such as base stations, radios, filters, combiners, and splitters.
    • Antennas, jumpers, and prefabricated RF components.
    • RF grounding systems and follow RF safety practices.
  • Various Telecommunications Devices
  • Prefabricated Components and Assemblies.
    • Telecommunications Grounding Systems
  • Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot lowvoltage cables including RG6, LMR400, ", 7/8" coax, Cat6, and fiber optic cabling.
  • Perform and interpret:
    • Fiber optic testing
    • RF Line Sweep Testing
    • PIM Testing
    • Signal verification testing
    • System commissioning activities
  • Troubleshoot DAS system performance issues.
  • Validate antenna locations and cable losses against design requirements.
  • Perform final system readiness inspections.
  • Train and supervise apprentices to ensure proper cable routing, support, and installation quality.
  • Mentor and develop junior technicians.
  • Ensure all work is completed according to code, customer requirements, and company standards.
  • Perform quality assurance checks to verify compliance with project standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and assist with job site cleanup.
  • Secure company tools, test equipment, and materials daily.
  • Travel 75%, including potential domestic and international assignments.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience installing and commissioning DAS, Public Safety DAS, Cellular DAS, Small Cell, or wireless communication systems.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • DAS Manufacturer Certifications, i.e. Solid, ADRF, Zinwave, Comba, JMA
  • Demonstrated experience leading installation crews.
  • Ability to independently execute installation projects from drawings and specifications.
  • Experience troubleshooting RF and fiber optic systems.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Reliable transportation to and from job sites.
  • Ability to read and understand plans, specifications, and run lists.
  • Consistent punctuality and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must wear long pants and a shirt with at least 6 inches of shoulder coverage (not provided by the company).
  • Must provide basic tools listed by the company prior to the first day.

  • PIM testing and troubleshooting experience.
  • BICSI Installer I, Installer II, or Technician certification.
  • OSHA 10 Certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Active Security Clearance

Abilities:

  • The position requires the ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to [50 pounds] on a regular basis. Candidates must demonstrate physical strength and stamina to perform various tasks, including but not limited to, loading, and unloading, operating equipment, and assisting in the transportation of various materials. Proper lifting techniques and safety protocols must be followed to ensure personal and team safety.
  • Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.
  • Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
  • Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
  • Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
  • May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
